Freshman striker Max Alvarez of Napa was named Second Team on the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer team for Sacramento State.
Alvarez led the MPSF in scoring (20 points) and goals (nine) during the regular season. His nine goals are the third highest single-season total in program history.
The Hornets won their second MPSF regular season title, and first since 2001.
Sacramento State posted a 10-5-2 record in the regular season and went 6-0-1 in conference play.
Justin-Siena High School (4-5 overall) is one of seven schools listed “on the bubble” in this week’s Redwood Empire football rankings, assembled by CalHi

The Braves continue their season today with a Marin County Athletic League game at Terra Linda-San Rafael. It’s a 2 p.m. kickoff.
Last year’s Napa High varsity spiritleader team has been selected as the “Featured Dance Team of the Month” on Varsity.com. A picture and information about the team will be up on the Web site all month.
The Napa spiritleaders have won 20 national titles.
To support the program, the community is invited to attend a wine auction, “Let Your Spirit Soar!” at the Carneros Inn on Nov. 22.

Oscar Camacho and Diana Camacho won the father-daughter doubles division of the San Marin Family Doubles Tournament, a U.S. Tennis Association-Northern California event Nov. 7.
The Camachos won in the semifinals over Greg Friedman and Marissa Friedman of Novato, 7-5, 6-4, and beat Donald Torre and Kaitlin Torre of Novato in the finals, 6-2, 7-5.
Jordan Grubbs of Justin-Siena and Zach Zuniga of Vintage were recognized by CalHiSports.com for being among the State Stat Stars of the Week.
Grubbs had an all-around big game in Justin-Siena’s 33-20 win over Redwood-Larkspur, returning a punt 61 yards for a touchdown, catching a 75-yard scoring pass from Eddie Aguayo, forcing a fumble and intercepting a pass.
Grubbs had a total of four receptions for 144 yards.
Zuniga rushed for 399 yards and seven touchdowns, both school records, in Vintage’s 80-56 win over Armijo. Zuniga also caught a 44-yard TD pass.
Napa’s Devin Whitmill started at defender and played 77 minutes for the Whitworth University women’s soccer team in a 1-0 Northwest Conference win over Lewis & Clark College in Spokane, Wash., on Nov. 7.
Paige Cruz of Napa made seven saves from her goalkeeper spot on Menlo College’s “Senior Day,” but the Oaks lost to William Jessup, 3-1, in a California Pacific Conference women’s soccer game in Atherton on Nov. 7.
Kellie Detweiler, also of Napa, had Menlo’s only goal.
Playing in the first half, Cruz made six saves as Menlo shut out Simpson (Redding), 1-0, on Tuesday in the Oaks’ season finale.
Menlo finished the season 5-4-1 in the CalPac, good for third place, and 7-10-1 overall.
Cruz went to Trinity Prep and also played soccer at Solano Community College. Detweiler played soccer at Vintage and Solano.
The Napa Saints youth football organization had two teams make the Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference playoffs.
The Saints’ junior midget team will take a 7-2 record into today’s DVYFC quarterfinal-round game at 9 a.m. against East County at Riverview Middle School in Bay Point.
The team consists of Austin Aaron, Adrian Alfaro, Finn Barry, Trentyn Beardsley, Nikolas Best, Hagen Bresee, Kiel Brown, Edgardo Carbone, Andrew Carnazola, Erik Christoffersen, Jacob Cremen, Jake Daniels, Demian Diaz, Jack England, Jack Good, Steven Groff, Nick LoCicero, Jabbar Lodhi, Michael Odell, Roosevelt Parta, Alonzo Portillo, Derek Poteet, Jesus Prado, Jack Pridy, Robbie Rudstrom, Jakeb Scherner, Jake Slavonia, Tyler Stubbs, Benjamin Supnet, Caleb Tremblay, Jacob Wheat, Conner Whitecotton and Pierce Young.
Head coach Ray Sisemore is assisted by Ron Daniels, Ron Hatton, Steve Groff, Rich LoCicero and Dane Poteet. Junior coaches are Drew Alves and Dalton Madole.
The Saints’ midget team (5-4) will play Deer Valley in the DVYFC quarterfinals today at 3 p.m. at Alhambra High School-Martinez.
