Napa’s Raneri & Long/Mark Coleman Insurance baseball team ran its win streak to 16 games with a 10-0 blanking of San Francisco’s Trinity Maintenance in five innings on Friday at Cleve Borman Field in Yountville.

But R & L/Coleman could meet its match at 3:30 p.m. today when it closes pool play against Daly City in the 33rd annual Keith Connelly 4th of July Invitational Tournament at the Veterans Home of California ballpark.

Daly City also improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a mercy rule-shortened victory on Friday, 16-0 over San Rafael’s North Bay Bruins in five innings.

Neither Napa nor Daly City has been dominant so far.

Napa struggled to put away San Rafael in a 5-3 win on Thursday, while Daly City squeaked past San Francisco 6-4.

Napa manager Spencer Czekalewski, not exactly happy with the way his team played Thursday, said the goal was to atone for it by putting away San Francisco early.

That it did, turning 13 at-bats into a 7-0 lead in the first inning with the help of four walks, two hit batters, a leadoff double and two-run double by Ethan Speizer (3-for-3, two RBIs, two runs), and a Dustin Mertens single.

With two outs in the third, Speizer singled and scored on a Julian Ceja single, and Ceja scored on an error to make it 9-0. Jordan Burns scored the 10th run in the fourth, singling and coming home on Ben Monroe’s single.

“I told them ‘We’ve got to play better than we played yesterday,’ and they came out and took advantage of mistakes,” Czekalewski said.

Mitch Perez, who pitched for Napa Valley College this year, tossed a three-hitter for the win, striking out six and walking one.

One of two players picked up by R & L/Coleman from other Napa Joe DiMaggio League teams for this tournament, Perez hadn’t pitched since his Napa Sheriffs/Matt Salsman Insurance team lost to R & L/Coleman a week before.

“I didn’t do too well against these guys,” he said of his current teammates, “but today I felt really good.”

He retired the first two San Francisco batters of every inning, but allowed baserunners in three of them — walking a batter in the first, allowing a Greg Ivory double and Ramiro Alvarez single in the third, and an Ismael Orozco single in the fourth.

“I think when I got two outs I got a little too anxious trying to get that strike down,” Perez said, “so I kinda stood up and said, ‘Keep it down.’ After we went up 7-0, then 9-0, I had to think of it as 0-0 game or I’d start getting all wild or they’d start hitting me. I had to stay within myself. It’s nice to get run support, though.”

Czekalewski was pleased with how Perez took care of business.

“He spotted the ball and kept them off-balance using his fastball,” the manager said. “It’s all about pitching in this tournament.”

In other games Friday:

Justin Agstad pitched six innings for the win, allowing seven hits with one walk, one hit batter and seven strikeouts.

San Bruno 20, Vallejo 10, six innings

San Bruno scored 12 runs in the fourth inning for a 17-2 lead. But Vallejo scored two in the fourth and four in the fifth to make it 17-8 and avoid the mercy rule — until the sixth, when San Bruno outscored Vallejo 3-2.
