Justin-Siena to host youth football title games set / The Napa Saints Youth Football & Cheer Association is hosting the four inaugural North Bay championship games at Justin-Siena High School’s Dodd Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The winners of the Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference will face the winners of the North Bay Youth Football Association at four different age levels. The Junior Pee Wees title game is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the Pee Wees contest at noon, the Junior Midgets game at 2 p.m., and the Midgets contest at 4 p.m.

Admission is $6 per adult, and free for ages 16 and younger.

Napa Little League final sign-up slated for Saturday / The final Napa Little League spring 2010 registration will be held Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Garfield Park at 80 Garfield Lane. Registrations will be accepted for boys and girls that are age 6 through 12 years old by Apr. 30, 2010.

Rookie League (6-8 year olds) is $130.  Minors and Majors (8-12 year olds) is $200. Price includes $40 in raffle tickets that player has the ability to sell to recoup the cost.  No mail in registrations accepted.

Napa Golf Club accepting applications / The Napa Golf Club at Kennedy Park is now accepting applications for membership for 2010.

The Club will be running 14 tournaments during the year, on Saturdays and Sundays, with a wide variety of formats, including qualifiers for Northern California Golf Association tournaments.

Napa Junior Girls Softball League registration near / The Napa Junior Girls Softball League will be conducting registration at Replay Sports on Lincoln Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The league is open to all girls in grades 2-7.

Practices will begin in March and games will be played from April through June.

The $100 registration fee includes a team shirt, photo package and awards.

Partial scholarships are available. Players signing up for the first time will need to show proof of age with a birth certificate.

Renegades hoop registration set in January / The Napa Renegades girl’s AAU basketball program will be holding sign-ups for the upcoming season on Jan. 4 from 5-7 p.m. and on Jan. 9 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  These sign ups will be held at the Boys and Girls club on Pueblo Avenue in Napa.  Tryouts will then be held on Jan. 11 from 4-6 p.m. and on Jan. 16 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. These will also be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Napa.  All girls who are trying out must have a current AAU membership card.  Practices will start the week of Feb. 1 and will be held 2-3 times per week. NYSL Saturday Soccer ‘Play Dates’ / Napa Youth Soccer League (NYSL) is sponsoring Soccer “Play Dates” on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon at the Redwood Middle School field through Dec. 19.  Registration is on site. Soccer Play Dates are two-hour instruction training and development sessions conducted by Abe Torres of Pure Potential Soccer designed specifically for the younger players of NYSL. Soccer Play Dates are available to all players U-6 to U-11 and the cost per session is $10 for players registered with NYSL.

Kiwanis Girls Fastpitch registration begins Jan. 19 / The Kiwanis Girls Fastpitch Association is accepting registration for the 2010 season. Signups will be held Jan. 19-20 at the Napa High cafeteria from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The program is open to girls who are ages 13 to 19, or are finishing their last year of A ball at the Junior Girls level.

Fees for the 2010 season are $95 for the first child or $75 for the second.

Softball experience is not required.

Justin-Siena seeks softball coach / Justin-Siena High School invites applications for the position of softball head coach. General administrative oversight will be received from the director of athletics. Salary will be determined commensurate with education and experience.The position will begin on or before Jan. 1, 2010.

Responsibilities include all aspects of managing and coaching the softball program. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, coaching student athletes, monitoring academic progress, managing a budget, coordinating travel, strategic planning for the softball program, teaching responsibilities, and other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must have at least five years of successful coaching experience. A bachelors degree is preferred. The candidate must have a proven record of successful leadership in the areas of softball coaching, fiscal management, team recruiting, program administration, public relations activities, and have a commitment to the integrity, success and prosperity of CIF athletics. In addition, the candidate must be able to work as a team member, be self-directed and serve as goodwill ambassador for Justin-Siena athletics.

Napa Valley Swim Team offers high school training / The Napa Valley Swim Team is once again offering its high school training program for high school age athletes of all ability levels. The three-month session will begin with registration and the first workout is on Monday, Nov. 9, at the Napa Valley College pool at 5 p.m. Practices will be held at the Napa Valley College pool, Monday through Friday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The high school training program costs $340 for the entire three-month program with no additional fundraising required. There is an annual USA Swimming registration fee of $50, which will provide valid USA Swimming membership throughout 2010.

Sheriff’s Activities League wrestling begins / The Napa Sheriff’s Activities League will be offering a free wrestling program for boys and girls ages 8 to 13. This program introduces kids to the sport of wrestling.

Practices have started at the Harvest Middle School cafeteria. Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

WCAN offers high school conditioning swim program / Wine Country Aquatics of Napa is offering a program to get swimmers prepared for the high school swim season. This program is specifically for swimmers who do not train year-around and want to get a head start on the high school season. Swimmers will have the opportunity to be trained by head coach Tim Teeter, who has coached swimmers of all levels. 

The program runs Nov. 16 to Feb. 5. Practice times and locations are: Nov. 16-Dec. 17, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Napa High pool; Dec. 18-Jan 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Vintage Aquatic Center; and Jan. 11-Feb. 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Vintage pool.

A 12-week full session costs $350 and a five-week mini-session costs $175. Each must also include a mandatory Pacific Swimming membership.

Napa Junior Lacrosse Club accepting registration / The Napa Junior Lacrosse Club is accepting registration for the 2010 Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association season. Napa will be hosting a record nine teams in 2010, including boys under-9, U11, U13, U15, junior varsity and varsity teams as well as U13, U15 and high school girls teams.

The Napa girls high school team is coming off of a “B” Division championship last year, going 12-0 and defeating the Chico Rebels in overtime in the championship game held at Justin-Siena last May.

The boys varsity high school team, made up of athletes from local high schools, looks to field a very competitive team in 2010 with most of the squad returning.

Napa Lacrosse is also looking for those interested in getting involved in the program in 2010. The club has grown by 50 percent over the last three years and will field approximately 175 players this year. With this rapid growth, the requirement for coaches and volunteers is growing with it.

AAU girls basketball nearing / The Napa Renegades are an AAU girls basketball club for grades 4 through high school. This is a competitive, traveling format.

Sign-ups for the 2010 season will be held this December. Tryouts will be in January. Practices start in February. Tournament play begins in March.

Board, volunteers needed for softball league / The Napa Valley Girls Fastpitch Association, which plays a spring and summer softball season at Kiwanis Park, is looking for new board members and volunteers for the 2010 season.

The NVGFA is also accepting early registration sign-ups for the 2010 season.

The major division is for girls ages 13 to 16 and the senior division is for girls ages 16 to 19.

The season runs from April 1 through Aug. 1. Fees are $95 for the first child and $80 for the second child in the same family.

The league is also looking for qualified coaches and managers.

There are positions open for executive board members, including vice president, player rep, field manager, secretary and members at large.

NYSL Soccer Swap underway / There is a free Napa Youth Soccer League Soccer Swap at Ben & Jerry’s, 1299 Napa Town Center, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Bring in used uniforms, cleats, shinguards or pick up any necessary gear.

Napa Valley Swim Team accepting new members / The Napa Valley Swim team is accepting new members, ages 6-18, to all levels of its year-round competitive program.

Practices are held at the Napa Valley College pool with the swimmer’s schedule determined by level.

Tryouts are conducted Fridays at 5 p.m. or by appointment.

Prospective members should be able to swim 25 yards of both freestyle and backstroke. For questions or to arrange a tryout, call 257-7946.
