NAPA - Henry Adams Hossfeld died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Jan. 4, 2009, at the age of 54. He fought a very courageous battle with prostate cancer for two years.
Henry was a simple man who loved to fly fish using the “catch and release” philosophy — a true lover of the outdoors. He built a vineyard on top of a mountain in Napa County and produced some of the finest grapes in the valley. He built high-end homes for dot.com clients in Marin, Napa, San Francisco and Sonoma.
Henry went to Marin Country Day School, Dunn School in Los Olivos, finished his studies at the University of the Pacific, and then pursued a career in construction as a general contractor. Later, he continued his education in viticulture through UC Davis’s program. Henry was a renaissance man, who made his way through life with foresight and persistence. He was a very intelligent man.
Henry is survived by a wife of 27 years, Susan Webb Hossfeld, born to Benjamin and Harriet Webb of Kentfield, and three daughters, Lucia Hedge Hossfeld, Hayley Webb Hossfeld and Sophia Adams Hossfeld. In addition, Henry is also survived by his mother, Susan Hedge Hossfeld of Marin; father Theodore Hossfeld of Mercer Island, Wash.; brother William Russell Hossfeld of Moraga; and sister Elizabeth Hossfeld Tarnowski of St. Paul, Minn.
Henry will be greatly missed by all who loved him, especially his family. We will always remember his fortitude to accomplish the impossible and his dynamite domino game.
A memorial service will be held in April. The family would like to express our utmost appreciation to the people of Kaiser Hospice.
Arrangements are under the care of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA. Family and friends are invited to send condolences and remembrances online to www.rpfsc.com.
