The 11-year-old boy injured this weekend when the bicycle he was riding struck a car in north Napa is in serious condition at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, according to his mother, Holly Smith.
Smith said her son, Marcus Smith, suffered a head injury, broken arm, lacerated liver and kidney. He was initially taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center and transferred to the Oakland hospital.
According to his mother, the boy is in and out of consciousness.
Smith, who lives in Round Mountain in Shasta County, was visiting family in Napa on Sunday evening. He was riding his bike on Rosewood Lane, off Big Ranch Road when he was hit by a car driven by Steven Kupka, 42, of Napa.
Police said neither alcohol nor speed played a part in the crash. The accident is under investigation.
