The city of Napa handed out $8,500 in cash awards Thursday to 13 local businesses, six schools and two apartment complexes for their outstanding recycling and waste reduction practices.

The money comes from Napa Recycling and Waste Services as part of its contract with the city, said Sara Gallegos, a materials diversion analyst.

The city winners were: Native Sons Hall, $250; R Pals Music, $250; Central Valley Builders Supply, $1,000; Napa Valley Wine Train, $1,000; Oak Hill Condos, $500; Rohlffs Manor, $1,000; Kolbe Academy and Trinity Prep, $1,000; St. John’s Lutheran School, $1,000; Harvest Middle School, $1,000; River Middle School, $500, and Napa Valley College, $1,000.

South county winners, who did not receive cash awards, were: Cuvaison Winery, a green certified winery; Collotype Labels, diverting large amounts of materials; Mont La Salle, improved recycling setup; Monticello Deli & Catering and Soda Canyon Store, food scrap composting; Foster’s Wine Estates, recycling and food scrap collection; Portocork America, cork recycling and corporate sustainability; Silverado Resort, food scrap program; Wintun School/County Office of Education, school waste reduction, and di Rosa Preserve, composting, reuse and zero waste.
