Three people were hospitalized Saturday in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 12, according to police and fire authorities.
The crash east of Kirkland Ranch Road was reported a little before 3 p.m.
The three victims, whose names were not available Saturday afternoon, were westbound in a 2000 blue Dodge Caravan when a red Ford F-150 truck rear-ended their vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Edward Espos said.
The Dodge Caravan then hit a BMW in front of it, he said.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan and two passengers were taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries, according to Espos and CalFire-Napa County Fire Engineer Shane Beck.
The driver of the F-150 pickup truck, Javier Cazares, 42, of Napa, and the driver of the BMW, Timothy Cohen, of Sparks, Nev., were not taken to the hospital, Espos said.
A dog found inside the Dodge caravan was not injured, Espos said.
The dog, which was tied to a vine post while officers and firefighters worked, was expected to be held in a shelter temporarily by Animal Control Services in Napa.
The crash may have been caused by possible inattention, Espos said. Cazares, who was alone in his truck, said he was driving at 35 miles per hour, Espos said.
That may have been too fast for the traffic conditions, he said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Espos said. The accident remains under investigation.
Traffic was blocked temporarily in both directions.

The woman called ‘911’ before seeking help from the CalFire station on nearby Monticello Road. Sheriff’s deputies found Steve O’Dell, 29, near the house, Napa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Doug Wilkinson said.
The incident took place in the 1000 block of Atlas Peak Road about 4:30 p.m.
O’Dell was arrested and booked into Napa County Jail on suspicion of burglary and other counts.
