Dear editor, The presence of a Snowy Owl in Napa, as authorities suggested regarding a nest at the Napa Valley Expo,  would be of great interest to birdwatchers and scientists from all over the world.

According to an article at the Central Valley Bird Club Web site, www.cvbirds.org, fewer than 10 examples of the species have been seen in California in more than 100 years.

" My bird-watching friends believe it is a barn owl. "

" There was a Snowy Owl observed in Suisun of Solano County about 3 years ago.

This was verified by Napa-Solano Audubon Society, KCRA news and others.

Pictures were posted on-line here: http://www.cal.net/~ani/snowy_owl_in_solano_county.htm "

" I agree with the barn owl assessment. They're white underneath but brown on top. The idea of a snowy owl is cool to me, but I'm thinking it's not. "

" Many websites say that snowy owls nest on the ground. Have any wildlife professionals confirmed that this was a snowy owl? Speaking of barn owls, There used to be a group of them that inhabited the tallest silos at the napa river inn, years back. I Don't know if they are still around. "
