Art notes: Coffee time at Vintage

Vintage High School presents its annual Coffee House, a casual evening of theatre, featuring scenes, monologues, lip syncs, music and poetry   Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Vintage High School Little Theatre, 1375 Trower Ave., Napa.

Vintage's talented students show off their versatility performing material from plays, movies, books and their own creations. Tickets are available at the door for $2.

Take a chance on miniatures

The Napa Valley Museum announces its call for entries for California artists to take part in the “2009 Miniatures” exhibition and fundraiser.
Donated miniature works of art will be exhibited in the museum’s main gallery and be the focus of a winter campaign to raise funds for the museum’s enrichment programs.

The Museum members’ preview, artists’ reception and “Take-a-Chance-on-Miniatures!” ticket sale is Nov. 28, 5:50-7 p.m.

Miniatures will be accepted every business day through Sunday, Nov. 15, between 10 a.m. and

5 p.m.

Application forms with rules and a calendar of dates may be downloaded from the museum’s Web site, www.napavalleymuseum.org, or picked up at the museum, at 55 Presidents Circle, Yountville. For more information, call 944-0500.

Sacred Arabic Art A reception Friday,

6-8 p.m. at the Napa City County Library, marks the opening of a new show by Rahima Patty Wear titled “Sacred Arabic Art.” An artists’ talk begins at 6:30 p.m.

The library is at 580 Coombs St., Napa.

‘Abstract in Motion’

Napa artist Peter Scaturro has opened a new show at the Throckmorton Theater in in Mill Valley.

“Abstract in Motion” includes his watercolor constructions, which are three-dimensional pieces, and his new Diamond series of watercolor panels.

In all, the artist said, there are close to 30 pieces, “with a wide range of sizes and prices.”

Scaturro said 2009 has been “a busy year of exhibits,” where he showed works at the Concourse Gallery in San Francisco, the Sonoma Valley Museum of Arts bicentennial show and a large exhibit of 50 paintings and sculptures at the Museu Italoamericano in San Francisco.

Pet portraits

The Cameo Theatre on Main Street in St. Helena has a show of pet portraits, created by students in Nancy Willis’ Napa Valley College beginning painting class.

The artist will also be teaching a class on making pet portraits in printmaking Saturday, 2-4:30  p.m. and Nov. 14, 2-4:30 p.m. at Nimbus Arts in St. Helena. The cost is $35 a session or $60 for both.

Blues Festival this weekend

Calistoga hosts a two-day Blues Festival on Saturday and Sunday with music from top-notch blues bands and performers, coupled with tasting of Calistoga wines.

The festivities start downtown on Saturday,

1-7 p.m., and move to participating wineries on Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Chateau Montelena, Dutch Henry Winery, Envy Winery, Grant Street Vineyards, Lava Vine Vineyards, Silver Rose Cellars, Solovino Wines, Tristant Vineyards and Twomey Cellars among the wineries offering wine accompaniments to the sounds of bands like Mick Martin, Tia Carroll, Andy Just, Volker Strifler and Lou the Blues from Siena, Italy.

For “Blues in the Vineyards” on Sunday, visitors can take a free shuttle from the Calistoga Chamber of Commerce at 1133 Washington St. to Dutch Henry Winery, Envy Winery, Lava Vine Vineyards, Madrigal Vineyards and Silver Rose Cellars to taste wines while listening to blues bands including Sugar G. Robinson, Jeff Johnson and Dennis Hubert.

Saturday tickets are $25. The 16 wine tastings provided with this ticket may be shared by two people.

The Sunday Passport is $35 per person and the Weekend Pass is $50 per person.

Tickets can be purchased at the Calistoga Chamber of Commerce office at 1133 Washington St.
