A week after defeating Vintage 40-12, the Indians were scheduled to make up a game against Wood, but the Wildcats were forced to forfeit.
Napa played the Vanden junior varsity instead and came out on top, 37-34.
Head coach Jerry Harris was pleased with the play of center Shawn Donaldson, guards Troy Taylor and Gian Marco Fiorini, tackles Danny Parness and Conor McNamare, tight ends Steve Payan and Eleazar Alvarez, wide receivers Ryan Gustafson, Griffin Abernethy and Jess Varner, and running backs David Hunt, Zach Jones and Carlos Garcia.
He added that running back Dalton Madole and wide receiver T.J. Brown provided “incredible” blocking. “But the real story tonight was (quarterback) Dom Good running the offense like a seasoned vet and hooking up with (wide receiver) Max McDonald. They both had breakout games. Our defense played a great game, like they have all year, against a much more experienced JV team.”
Against the Vintage freshmen, Napa controlled the clock on offense and got two touchdowns from its defense.
“My hat’s off to this football team,” Harris said. “Their growth and improvement was exceptional. They proved to be successful due to their hard work in the weight room and on the field.”
Harris also commended his fellow coaches — defensive coordinator Chris Yepson, offensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Joe LeMasters, running backs/defensive backs coach Chris Harris, and line coaches Joe Ruffino and Mike Brown.
“A lot of our success is due to these guys calling great games,” Harris said.
“It’s been a joy to coach with these guys. They all make me look good. I love them all.”
