CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake High School football team ran away from St. Helena in the second half of Friday night’s 27-3 win over the Saints.

The Saints (3-6 overall, 0-3 NCL I South) trailed just 6-3 at halftime as Kevin Burt got the Cardinals on the board with a 44-yard run. The extra point was no good.
St. Helena cut the lead in half on a 28-yard field goal by David Martinez.

Defensively in the first half, Ryan Heywood and Ezequiel Valdivia recovered fumbles, while Alex Quiralte posted a tackle for loss.
The Cardinals broke it open in the second half, however, as quarterback Ryan Richardson’s 27-yard scoring run, Burt’s 5-yarder and a 3-yard TD by Ryan Lunas sent St. Helena to its sixth straight loss.

Brad Wasieluski tacked on an extra point and Chris Leloul caught a 2-point conversion pass from Richardson to round out the scoring.
Valdivia rushed for 101 yards on 26 carries for the Saints, while Burt (16 for 134) and Lunas (17 for 108) led the Cardinals.

Valdivia added a sack and Quiralte another tackle for loss in the second half.

The Saints will try to rebound next Friday against visiting Upper Lake.

Hoppe also threw a 2-point conversion pass to Brian Begerow.

Del Bondio returned an interception 51 yards for another score and booted a pair of extra points.

Charles Bertoli rounded out the scoring with a 68-yard TD run, while Dominic Skinner recovered a fumble.
