Just in time for Halloween the SF Chronicle is publishing something really scary; in their Insight section they are now fixated on overturning Prop 13.
Evidently the Liberal Left has decided that they have to find an excuse for the reason all their policies have driven California into bankruptcy and failure. The new mantra will be that it is all Prop 13's fault. Ignoring the fact that property tax revenue is over 500% what it was before Prop 13; far higher than what inflation and population growth would account for.
They conveniently leave out the fact that Prob 13 protects ALL property owners by limiting yearly tax increases to 2%.
They also blame it for the 2/3 requirement to pass a budget; ignoring the fact that California's taxes are already among the highest in the country. Imagine how high taxes would be WITHOUT the 2/3 requirement!
Be prepared. If you are not a member of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, now would be a good time to join... "

Before Prop 13 taxes would rise astronomically each and every year. Governor Moonbeam refused to do anything, the Legislature was gridlocked (sound familiar?) and Prop 13 was passed and it saved the homes of thousands if not millions of homeowners.
Talk to your friends who have abandoned California and moved to other States. I know it's antecdotal, but they are all surprised that their property taxes vary dramatically year from year.
In a high tax State locked in a "death spiral", property taxes are the one bright spot as they fall into the media area when compared to other States... "

Your answer is long term home ownership is rewarded.
Property tax in L.A., what my parents were paying was 15% on a home valued at $130k. take your home now at $300, 400, or even 500k x 5,6,7,8, or 9% property tax.
Long before they touch Prop 13, they need to fix their own house and spending issues.
The Demoncrats are trying to turn CA into a total ghost town.
Just how much taxation can we take in this economy? Would you be willing to pay 40,45,50,55,60, or even 65% of your income in taxes???
Health Care, Cap & Trade, TARP, Stimulus, State Taxes, City taxes, School Taxes amount to trillions in new taxes......Inefficient management.

Bill Frist is a doctor!
George Walker Bush
Reaped $14 million from selling his $600,000 stake in a deal that involved the building of a new stadium for the Texas Rangers. George profited handsomely while taxpayers were stiffed for the money to subsidize Bush and his investment partners.
Jeb Bush
Defaulted on a $4,56 million loan from Broward Federal Savings in Sunrise, Florida. After federal regulators closed the S&L, the office building that gave Jeb used that loan, the $4.56 million to finance was reappraised by the regulators to $.5 million, which Bush and his partners paid, thereby leaving the taxpayers with a $4 million LOSS.
As for Rudolph Giuliani, among the many problems discussed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_of_Rudy_Giuliani , one of the most significant – given the problems of the Bush administration with encroachments over personal freedoms, " "More than 35 successful lawsuits were brought against Giuliani and his administration for blocking free speech."

These days new technology comes out fast and the bad guys get new technology too. While I think it is a huge waste to buy a new limo every year or so, there probably isn't a good alternative. Retrofitting an armored limo is probably almost as expensive as building a new one, and we should use American suppliers even if the cost is $100K higher.
We must demand more American made products but the WalMart buying public just wants the cheapest **** they can buy - and they will get exactly that. How can you outsource the majority of our manufacturing jobs (and now customer service and office jobs are being sent out) and then expect to get a good job with decent pay here in the US? People, it's time to wake up! There will be no economic recovery without non-government job creation. All the talking head economic experts push this administration's propaganda that the economy is recovering but we will have high unemployment. That's an administration lie and is simply ridiculous. Fewer jobs plus more government = higher taxes on those who have jobs, which result in more jobs sent elsewhere.
Now our auto industry has been gutted by the government. We will be getting Italian Dodges and most likely we will have Chinese GM cars soon. Nice if you live in Italy or China and maybe an Italian Dodge sounds like fun (I'd like a Ferrari Viper please) but will you be able to get a job with a good enough income to buy one? Or do you expect the government to buy one for you? "

Ezra Klein from the washington post...
In 2019 the Republican alternative will have helped 3 million people secure coverage, which is barely keeping up with population growth. Compare that to the Democratic bill, which covers 36 million more people and cuts the uninsured population to 4 percent. The GOP's alternative will shave $68 billion off the deficit in the next 10 years. The Democrats, CBO says, will slice $104 billion off the deficit. The Democratic bill, in other words, covers 12 times as many people and saves $36 billion more than the Republican plan.
This is a major embarrassment for the Republicans. It's one thing to keep your cards close to your chest. Republicans are in the minority, after all, and their plan stands no chance of passage. It's another to lay them out on the table and show everyone that you have no hand, and aren't even totally sure how to play the game. The Democratic plan isn't perfect, but in comparison, it's looking astonishingly good.

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” [page 3]
When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail.
