Dear editor, I loved the article by Mike Treleven in the Oct. 25 paper about the museums in Napa County. Thank you for highlighting some of Napa’s cultural institutions. Sometimes we forget that Napa has more than just amazing, world-class wines. We can also be a cultural tourism destination! Napa has so much to offer including wine, art, music, theater, food and a rich and diverse history.

What we must remember is the museums and historical organizations mentioned — Napa County Historical Society, Sharpsteen Museum, Napa Firefighters Museum, Napa Valley Museum and Silverado Museum — and those not mentioned (Napa County Landmarks, St. Helena Historical Society, Jewish Historical Society of Napa Valley, Napa Valley Genealogical and Biographical Society and Napa Police Historical Society) are all nonprofit organizations dedicated to the history of our beautiful county and are in need of funding. If you want to support some of these great organizations, become a member or send a donation. Contact information for these organizations can be found at www.artscouncilnapavalley.org or you can contact me at 224-1739 or director@napahistory.org for contacts at any of these organizations. Support local history!
Treleven mentioned that the Historical Society has a research library with “local information, historical documents and photos” but we also have an exhibition space and extensive calendar of events and programs. Check out the new exhibit, “Portals to the Past: Work & Play in Napa County” on display now until January. Free admission Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., and visit www.napahistory.org for more information.
