Man flown out after Jamieson Canyon wreck
By ALISHA WYMAN, Register Staff Writer
4:30 p.m.A man was flown to an out-of-county hospital after a three-car accident on Jamieson Canyon Road this afternoon.
At about 2:30 p.m., Vacaville resident Kurt Bennink, 50, was driving a white sedan west on Jamieson Canyon Road at Kirkland Ranch Winery, according to the California Highway Patrol.
For unknown reasons, Bennink veered into oncoming traffic, where Lou Scalzo, 64, was driving a Lexus. Scalzo swerved to avoid the oncoming car, but it hit the left back side of the Lexus, CHP Sgt. McDermott said.
The impact caused the Lexus to spin around. The white vehicle continued and hit a JR Concrete truck hauling a trailer head on, McDermott said. The truck went off the road, spilling a load of two-by-fours and other materials.
The driver of the white sedan suffered moderate to major injuries and was flown by CHP helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
The driver of the truck, Jose Zepeda, 26, of Sacramento suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Scalzo, his wife Claire Scalzo, 64, and his son Arthur Wren, 21, were uninjured.
Three dogs and a cat in their car also weren’t hurt, he said.
