A head-on collision along Highway 29 in which one of the drivers fled the scene of the wreck sent a pregnant Santa Rosa woman to the hospital with moderate injuries Sunday morning.
The accident was reported shortly after 11 a.m. A 30-foot Travel Queen motor home was driving south along Highway 29, north of Tubbs Lane, when it rounded a corner and drifted into the path of a Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven in the opposite direction by Santa Rosa resident Randu Vizcaino according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motor home struck the sports car head-on, causing major damage to the car the CHP said.
“The Mitsubishi was pushed back with major front-end damage,” CHP Sgt. Elfido Montez said. “The motor home went over the side of the roadway about 30 feet.”
Wendy Vizcaino, a passenger in the Eclipse who is reportedly six months pregnant, sustained moderate injuries and complained of chest pain according to CalFire. She was taken to the hospital by Piner’s Ambulance Service.
The CHP said that the driver of the motor home left the scene of the accident in a silver pickup truck that was last seen driving north on Highway 29 toward Middletown.
Officers closed a lane of traffic for about an hour and a half as two big rigs pulled the motor home out of the side of the roadway. The Vizcainos wore their seat belts during the accident according to the CHP. The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
