Vacaville keeps Crushers winless on season

VACAVILLE — Vacaville High School was dominating Friday night, scoring four touchdowns in each half to beat Vintage, 56-7, in a Monticello Empire League football game at Tom Zunino Stadium.
Eleven different players carried the ball in Vacaville’s high-scoring offense, which produced 572 yards of total offense on the way to its fifth straight win.
Vacaville (7-1 overall, 3-0 MEL) scored on four of its five possessions in the first half. The Bulldogs didn’t let up, as they scored on four straight possessions in the second half.
The loss keeps Vintage (0-8 overall, 0-3 MEL) winless with two games to go in the regular season. The Crushers face Armijo and then Napa High in the Big Game.
Quincy Forte scored two touchdowns and rushed for 95 yards. Jimmy Hines had 107 yards rushing and one touchdown. Roman Hauser carried five times for 93 yards and a TD. De’john Miller ran for 106 yards and a TD as Vacaville’s run-oriented offense was punishing.
Vintage’s only score came on Brandon Gant’s 29-yard touchdown reception from Jackson Maher. The early touchdown, capping a drive of 75 yards in nine plays, pulled Vintage even with Vacaville 7-7 with 4:09 to go in the first quarter. Zach Zuniga had a 14-yard run in the half.
But Vintage was forced to punt twice, lost the ball on downs after Alex Peterson’s 18-yard catch from Maher at the Vacaville 6-yard line, and turned it over on an interception later in the first half.
The Crushers turned the ball over on a fumble and lost the ball on downs three times in the second half.
Zuniga led the Crushers with 112 yards rushing.
Vacaville scored on four of its five first-half possessions to take a 28-7 lead at halftime.
Blakelyn Birks caught a 20-yard TD pass from Tyler Irwin with 8:28 to go in the first quarter, capping a drive of 42 yards in six plays.
In one of the prettiest plays of the first half, Forte ran 51 yards, reversing his field direction twice, for a first-quarter touchdown with 2:03 to go. Forte’s run came on a third down and 15 and capped a drive of 66 yards in eight plays.
Forte’s second TD run came on a 10-yard dash, in which he went into the end zone standing up at the 8:13 mark of the second quarter. The score capped a drive of 89 yards in nine plays.
Hauser scored Vacaville’s fourth TD of the half, culminating a drive of 94 yards in 10 plays.
Each team had a turnover in the first half, which was dominated by Vacaville with 326 yards of total offense and 14 first downs to Vintage’s 92 yards and six first downs.
The Bulldogs went into Week 8 averaging 8.9 yards per carry and 405.1 yards per game running the ball. They’ve scored 50 or more points in five games.

Zack Pawloski scored on a 21-yard run and Jose Rojas ran three yards for a touchdown for Vintage (4-3-1 overall, 2-1 MEL), which turned the ball over on a fumble with 2:45 to go on Friday night. Hugo Figueroa kicked two PATs.
Vacaville returned an interception 22 yards for a TD with 12 seconds to play. The Bulldogs also picked off a pass with three seconds to play.
Vacaville took the lead, 20-14, with 6:26 to go.
The score was tied 14-14 at the end of the third quarter.
Vintage blocked a field goal attempt with one minute to go.
“We expected we’d be in a hard-fought game,” said Vintage coach Kyle Schuh. “(Vacaville) made a play at the end and we didn’t. I’m proud of the kids for fighting hard.”
