Two people were injured in a three-car accident on Highway 221 Tuesday.

At about 4:45 p.m., Duane Christ, 60, of San Antonio, Texas, was driving a 2010 Ford Escape rental car south from Napa on Highway 221, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Elyse Padua, 25, of Benicia was following him in a 2007 Toyota Prius. Behind her was Trevor Martin, 28, of Napa, in a 1991 Honda Civic.

Christ stopped on the highway for traffic, and Padua came to a stop behind him, the CHP said. Martin didn’t notice the cars stopped in front of him and hit the Prius going at about 50 mph, the CHP said.
The momentum sent the Prius forward into the Ford.

Padua and Martin were taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center with complaints of pain and injuries, the CHP said. Christ and three passengers in the Ford were uninjured.
Traffic was slow in the area for about a half hour while emergency crews cleared the road.

" DannyK, if you don't want to get hit by a Prius, don't drive in the fast lane.

Prius drivers don't use the slow lane. They're always in the fast lane, usually with a long line of cars behind them.

OK, maybe I'm over-generalizing. But not by much. "

" Actually, that stretch of road---from Imola State Hospital to the Butler Bridge intersection---was known as the Napa-Vallejo Highway or just Hwy 29. Soscol Avenue ends at Imola. This was before the Butler Bridge was erected. Since now Hwy 29 goes over the Butler Bridge and no longer through town (down Imola Ave), they had to assign it a different highway number. Most people would never know they were on Hwy 221 because there are NO SIGNS on it. "

" I was in the 2007 prius that was hit. As far as I know, everyone else is alright. I talked to trevor in ER, and he seemed ok. I just had a sprained neck and bruises. I loved my prius, it treated me well. However, the airbags never deployed! My husband and I are going to write a strongly worded letter to Toyota!
P.S @ Danny K--The ford won certainly! My car is totaled! "

" Napkin is absolutely correct. Soscol Ave. ends at Imola. South of Imola all the way until you reach 29 (by the Grape Crusher) is State Route 221.

I believe there is a sign when you are nearing the Imola/Soscol intersection that shows the 221 shield, but there are no 221 shields anywhere on the actual highway. "

" Actually there is a really big sign at the split that says 221. I know there is also one other sign on the side of the road that says 221. "
