NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley: Vintage High School, the host school for this year’s Big Game, has announced that tickets will be available for purchase online at the Vintage High webstore beginning today.
Big Game XXXVIII is Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Napa Memorial Stadium. It’s one of the state’s top rivalry games.
The webstore can be accessed through the school’s website at www.vhs.nvusd.k12.ca.us. Click on the shopping cart in the top left-hand corner.
Tickets purchased through this site can be picked up the next day at the Vintage High Administration Office or at will call the day of the game. The will call booth will be at the southeast corner of Napa Memorial Stadium, next to the building at 1400 Menlo Ave.
You can also purchase tickets from the Vintage High and Napa High campuses beginning Oct. 29.
All ticket presales will end at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.
Ticket prices are $9 for adults and $6 for middle and elementary school students. Napa High students with a super punch will pay $3, and those without a super punch will be charged $6. Vintage High students with a super punch will receive a free ticket, which must be picked up at the Activities Office.
The will call booth will open at 2 p.m. the day of the game and the gates will open at 4 p.m.
Due to a cap on ticket sales, spectators are urged to buy their tickets before the day of the game. There will be limited ticket sales on game day, with sales beginning at 2 p.m.
Only CIF, Monticello Empire League and Vintage High Booster passes will be honored. Vintage Booster pass holders must pick up their tickets at Vintage High by the Thursday before the game. Napa Booster pass holders must purchase a ticket, but NHS reserved seating will be honored.

Napa was well represented at the 35th annual Club West Masters Track & Field Meet in Santa Barbara.
Tony Giovannoni and Jack Squires each captured multiple gold medals at the event, which was held on the campus of UC Santa Barbara.
Giovannoni, competing in the men’s 50-54 age group, collected four wins on the day. He took both sprints, capturing the 100 meters in a time of 12.4 seconds, and then clocked a 25.78 to win the 200 meters. He also won the long jump (17-103⁄4 ) and the triple jump (36-0).
Giovannoni participated in only two outdoor meets in 2009, but he ended the season ranked in the top 25 nationally in five different events.
Squires, who competes in the 65-69 year-old division, ended the season ranked No. 11 in the nation in the high jump. He won that event in Santa Barbara (4-31⁄2 ) and also captured gold in the 50-meter dash (8.10).

The UC Davis men’s golf team, coached by Napa High graduate Cy Williams, finished eighth at The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. The tournament was co-hosted by UC Davis and Stanford, and was played at the TPC Stadium Course, a par-72, 7,300-yard layout.
The Prestige at PGA West is in its 10th year as one of the premier collegiate golf tournaments.
Williams is in his 16th season as the Aggies’ coach, having successfully guided the program from its status as a perennial NCAA Division II contender to a highly competitive member of Division I.
