NOTES AND QUOTES for a Saturday in the Napa Valley:

Jimmy Cacho tied for 18th place individually, helping the Santa Clara University men’s golf team to the championship of the 16-team Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif., Tuesday.
Cacho, a Justin-Siena High School graduate, had rounds of 74, 68 and 79 for a 5-over-par 221 total on the 7,305-yard course.

Santa Clara won by four shots over Cal State Northridge.
It was the Broncos’ first tournament title since winning the UC Irvine Anteater Classic in February of 2008.

Cacho’s younger brother, Danny, represented Santa Clara as an individual and finished in a tie for 77th, shooting 82-76-77 — 235.
Santa Clara will next play at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic, hosted by Long Beach State, Oct. 22-23.

John Boyett, a redshirt freshman, is listed as the University of Oregon’s starter at free safety on the team’s depth chart going into today’s Pacific-10 Conference game against UCLA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Kickoff is 12:36 p.m., with ABC carrying the game.

Boyett, a Napa High graduate, is second for Oregon with 29 total tackles through five games. The Ducks (4-1 overall, 2-0 Pac-10) come into the game ranked 13th by The Associated Press and 17th by USA Today.

Boyett was a special-mention All-American and the State Player of the Year by maxpreps.com at Napa High.

Nacho Delgado, a 2004 Napa High graduate, was recently selected as a company member with the prestigious “Grandeza Mexicana Folkloric Ballet Company.”

Delgado is currently studying political science and Chicana/o studies at UCLA.

He is the guest choreographer of the Napa High Dance Department’s Latin Rhythm Dancers.

One of his mentors included the late Kris Van Treese, who started the Latin Rhythm Dancers.

Delgado continues to come back each year on his school break to choreograph and contribute his talents in honor of Van Treese, which helps keep the program going strong, according to director Hollie Schmidt.

“Nacho is an extremely talented dancer. He has been a choreographer at UCLA for their Folkloric Company on campus and I am thrilled that he is now dancing professionally with this well-known and innovative company,” said Schmidt.

The company also performs modern, lyrical, African and Flamingo styles of dance as well. This shows the versatility that Delgado possesses as a dancer and what an inspiration he continues to be for all of the current NHS dancers, said Schmidt.

Natalie Loyola of Napa had two assists for the Solano Community College women’s soccer team in a 4-0 Bay Valley Conference win Tuesday over Los Medanos-Pittsburg.

Solano (8-1-2 overall, 2-0 BVC) is ranked No. 11 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

CJ Blom is participating in fall ball workouts with the UC Davis baseball program.

The Aggies practice six days a week, with workouts concluding on Nov. 11, then pick right back up in early January prior to the start of the 2010 season.

Blom was the Napa County Offensive Player of the Year and was All-Monticello Empire League during the 2009 season for Napa High.

Overall, Blom batted .420 with four home runs and 38 RBIs. As a pitcher, Blom was 4-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 231⁄3 innings.

Adriana Vasquez had an assist for the Sam Houston State women’s soccer team as the Bearkats won their Southland Conference opener, 2-1 over McNeese State in Lake Charles, La., last week.
