Two Upvalley meetings this month are geared toward informing residents about gangs and youth substance use.

The first meeting will be Tuesday at the Calistoga Community Center, 1307 Washington St.
A second meeting Monday, Oct. 19, will take place at the St. Helena Fire Department, 1500 Main St.

Parents can learn the signs of gang involvement and how to intervene; why kids use alcohol and drugs and what resources are available for parents.
Napa County Supervisor Diane Dillon organized the meetings, which will be held in English and Spanish.

For more information, contact Napa County staff assistant JoAnn Melgar at 299-1478 or jmelgar@co.napa.ca.us.

" I read the headline and assumed the Latino groups who were ignored by the Grand Jury had organized these workshops.
Then I read the article and find that the ignored Latino groups are still missing in action. "

" you may want to target the younger Latino's but its the
older
Amigos thats "feeding them" the drugs, who ever the person that
is in charge of this crime unit should be fired, they know who they are.......... "

" I think a hearing to force the return of chain gang labor would be better. Hard labor for gang members convicted of anything, and deportation after. Parents of gangsters that are not here legally should be deported also.

They may just be here for a better life, but it is making life worse for citizens, and we can't afford to subsidize the bums. "

" Cadence, maybe NVR should print the invitation list? "
