1:30 p.m.Napa County is planning this month to distribute swine flu vaccine, also known as H1N1 vaccine, but needs time to nail down specifics.

The County’s first vaccinations are going to be targeted — sometime this month — to federally-recommended “priority groups,” which include health care workers, pregnant women, children six months up to adults 24 years old, caregivers and family members of infants aged up to six months and those with underlying health conditions.
“Like communities all over the country, our initial shipment of the H1N1 vaccine is small and comes to us in the form of the nasal spray,” said Napa County Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith. “In accordance with (Centers for Disease Control) and state recommendations, we’ll ensure that those first doses are administered to otherwise healthy children, with no underlying medical conditions. We’ve been told to expect that by November, we’ll have enough vaccine for anyone who would like it.”

For more information, call 253-4270 or visit the Napa County Web site at www.co.napa.ca.us and click on the H1N1 logo on the home page.
