Vintage High head football coach Billy Smith said he’s looking for his team to get better and better each week.
“It’s a tough start, but they’re still a good football team,” Bethel coach Jeff Turner said after the Jaguars’ 20-6 win over Vintage in a nonleague game last week. “They’re right there, they are right there.”
The loss puts the Crushers 0-4, with Friday’s pre-league game at Del Oro-Loomis (4-0) to go before the start of the Monticello Empire League season.
“Billy does a good job with the kids,” said Turner. “They’ve got good stuff going on up here. They’ve got great numbers, which is always good.”
How much does Turner like playing in Memorial Stadium?
“All I know is, I need to talk to the (athletic directors). I need this grass rolled up and taken down to Bethel. That’s what I would like.”
The stadium will be rebuilt following the 2009 season and a synthetic all-weather field will be put in, replacing the bermuda grass.
