NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley:

Hiddenbrooke Golf Club, an Arnold Palmer Signature course located in Vallejo, was recently named ninth best public golf course in Golf World’s second annual “Readers’ Choice Awards.” The awards recognize the country’s top 50 private, public and resort golf facilities.
Golf World readers evaluated the nation’s golf facilities based on 13 performance criteria such as course quality, conditions and service. Golf World published the results in its Sept. 28 issue.

Hiddenbrooke also ranked No. 4 in the Service category, No. 5 in the Overall Value category, No. 10 in the Reputation/Prestige category, No. 7 in the Clubhouse category, No. 5 in the Pro Shop category and No. 5 in the Food and Dining category.
Operated by Northbrook, Ill.-based KemperSports since 2006, Hiddenbrooke is located off I-80 in Vallejo. The golf course opened to the public in 1995 and showcases dramatic elevation changes and dynamic water features. Multiple sets of tees enable golfers of all skill levels to enjoy the par-72 layout.

From 2000-2002, the venue hosted the Samsung World Championship, a prestigious LPGA event that featured the top 20 female golfers from around the world.

Senior setter Lindsay Brown continues to rewrite the Sonoma State volleyball record book, as she set another all-time mark last Saturday in a 3-1 loss to Cal State San Bernardino. Brown, a Napa High School graduate, had two service aces, eclipsing the career service aces mark set by former Seawolf Taylor Manton in 2007.

Brown now has 131 aces in her four-year career, topping Manton’s mark of 130.

She also handed out her 3,000th career assist in a 3-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Brown has 3,098 for her career and has already shattered the previous all-time assist record in her three-plus years in the Seawolves uniform. She already holds the record for most assists in a season.

Sonoma State has California Collegiate Athletic Association matches at home Friday against Cal State Stanislaus and Saturday against Chico State. Both are 7 p.m. starts in the Wolves’ Den in Rohnert Park.
