Napa will hold two free public workshops to explain new revisions to floodplain maps.

The workshops will be Oct. 7 and 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 955 School St.
The flood plain remapping is being done by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The new map will be used to determine flood insurance rates and to help with floodplain management.

The new maps are preliminary. They take into account how recent flood project improvements have lowered water elevations in many areas and reduced flooding.
Owners of some re-mapped properties may be required to purchase flood insurance and may be subject to more restrictive requirements for new construction. Citizens have a 90-day appeal period.

To learn more about flood insurance, visit www.FloodSmart.gov. For further information about the workshops, call Karen Harnois at 257-9404.
