If you had 90 minutes to sit down with your congressman, what would you talk about?
Certainly, in September of 2009, one topic would be health care reform, as that debate has dominated political discussion for months. When Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, came to Register World Headquarters a little more than a week ago, health care was Topic A. But there were others. Here are some outtakes from the Sept. 11 meeting.
On state Sen. Pat Wiggins, who decided not to seek re-election under intense pressure because it appeared her intellectual capacity had diminished, Thompson said the situation was “very sad.”
He acknowledged that Wiggins’ condition had been the subject of discussion among political leaders for some time. Asked if he believed she was diminished and why, if she is no longer capable of effectively serving the public, no one came forward to say so, he paused and said, “I don’t want to talk about somebody’s health issues.”
He said that Wiggins’ constituents should “be thankful for what she did in public service.”
The conversation touched all too briefly on the war in Afghanistan. Just as the Iraq war presented mind-boggling tactical and diplomatic decisions for America and its allies, Afghanistan is another dangerous puzzle.
Thompson noted that one reason the stakes are so high is that Pakistan, which neighbors Afghanistan and which has supplied significant support to the Taliban, “is a nuclear country,” and one that has been intensely engaged with another problem, its contested border with India in the province of Kashmir.
Further, he said, waging a military campaign is difficult in Afghanistan for more reasons than the maze of caves in Tora Bora. The people, he said, “have nothing there. You can’t get less developed than they are. That makes it tough militarily.”
As for the Pentagon’s request for tens of thousands more troops in Afghanistan, Thompson said Congress will insist that the Obama administration present a comprehensive “exit strategy” for Afghanistan before it approves a major increase in troops or resources. “It can’t just be boots on the ground,” Thompson said.
Finally, Thompson is a native of St. Helena and the conversation turned to his youth in St. Helena. He mentioned that as a teen, one of his jobs was to push around pig slop on an Upvalley ranch.
St. Helena Star and Weekly Calistogan Publisher Doug Ernst, sitting in on the meeting as a member emeritus of the Register editorial board, made the observation that wallowing in pig swill was probably good training for going to Congress.
“Or going to editorial board meetings,” Thompson replied.

dig you call Russ and me "Pig Swill"?
I do not remember either of us calling you names. I owuld appreciate it if did do not call us names.
Making this personal makes you an ugly person. We are debating Mike Thompsons complicity in conspiring to deny us basic fundamental rights and preserving the Republic.
If that is a course of action you do not wish to to take, fine. But leave the name calling out of it. The register should have not printed your comments, but that is another entry in the blog.
Thompson is a complete failure as a representative and a coward for not listening to his constituents. His office staff hides from the Tea Party, which are Americans seeking answers.
By the way, our numbers are getting bigger and we will not stop until we can be sure Congress listens to us. 1.5-2.5 million people marching on Washington are going to be heard! "

I said the congressman has experience dealing with pig swell and would come out of this just fine.
I do think the unkind remarks about any persons allege illness is as low as pig swell.
There is no debate with you. You call people names in almost all you comments cowards, loosers , libs . You constantly mis quote Historical facts and when challenged with the truth you go silent.Or revert to name calling.
You want a one party government run only by your party of choice. Just like a communistic one party government.
For the life of me I do not understand why you do not go to Cuba or China and leave our country and our form of government. Oh waite here in our country you have the freedom to speak and think and choose, well guess what so does every one else!
You do not dictate or controll our country.
I have said it before and I shalll say it again there are good on both sides of the isle. I guess it all depends on what you want to step on. :>) "

Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me.
Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the Deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American Citizens that desperately needed work..
Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create jobs For returning veterans.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican Nationals! The program was called 'Operation Wetback'. It was Done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took 2 Years, but they deported them!
Now...if they could deport the illegal's back then - they could sure do it today.
If you have doubts about the veracity of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself.
Reminder: Don't forget to pay your taxes...
12 million Illegal Aliens are depending on you! "
