NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley:
A field of 150 riders, including 2009 world champion Donny Robinson of Napa, is entered in Round three of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup presented by Swatch. It takes place on the Olympic replica Supercross track at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., Friday and Saturday.
Action begins tomorrow when riders will race the clock in an attempt to qualify for Saturday night’s finals.
The North American Supercross event is the third of four races on the World Cup circuit, with the final stop being in Frejus, France on Oct. 9-10.
The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series offers crucial international ranking points that affect an athlete’s individual international ranking, and contribute to a nation’s ranking, which is the primary factor in determining the number of start positions a country receives at the 2012 Olympic Games.
The Chula Vista contest is also the second race to be factored into the 2010 USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings, which is one of the factors that will determine nominees to the U.S. BMX Olympic team in 2012.

Emily Talley of Napa led the University of Colorado women’s golf team, tying for 17th place at the Colorado State Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic Tuesday. Talley, a sophomore, had rounds of 75, 69 and 74 for a 218 total in the first tournament of the fall season for the Buffaloes. It was played on the 6,259 yard, par-72 Ptarmigan Country Club Course in Fort Collins, Colo.
Talley carded her first career sub-70 round in the tournament. Colorado was ninth in the 16-team field.
Talley’s second round score included four birdies. “We’re always working on trying to finish strong,” said Talley. “That’s always in the back of my mind when I have four holes left. Last week was an eye-opener, and same with this morning, and I just felt like I needed to get back in the swing of things and stay focused.”
