NOTES AND QUOTES for a Saturday in the Napa Valley:
Jeff Dunbar and Eddie Aguayo of Justin-Siena High School were named to the All-Redwood Empire Preseason football team.
Dunbar, a lineman, was chosen to the defense. The top returning lineman for the defending CIF North Coast Section Division IV champion Braves is getting looks from several Ivy League schools, Harold Abend of CalHiSports.com said.
“The reason is, besides his gridiron prowess, he carries a GPA above 3.5 at the academically challenging Wine Country Catholic school,” said Abend.
Aguayo, who plays quarterback and defensive back, made the team in the multi-purpose category.
“He’s small in stature, but the big man in the Braves’ offense is also lightning quick, and showed more than a decent arm in leading his team to the NCS Division IV title last season as a junior,” said Abend.
Eric Jamison, an offensive lineman, was listed among other players to watch.

Alvarez scored three goals during the first week of competition, leading the Hornets to a 2-0-1 record to start the 2009 season.
The former Napa High star leads Sacramento in goals (three), points (six), shots (14) and shots on goal (6).

In the semifinals, Hernandez beat Daniel Saldana of Roseville, 6-3, 6-3, and Lima beat John Lantz of Santa Rosa, 6-2, 6-0. Hernandez downed Mesut Koc of Roseville, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, and Lima beat Jerry Lewis of Fairfield, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the quarterfinals.
