If starting free safety T.J. Ward — who is out with a high ankle sprain — can’t go Saturday in the University of Oregon’s home opener at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, the Ducks will call on redshirt freshman John Boyett of Napa.

Boyett had five total tackles (two solo stops and three assists) in the Ducks’ 19-8 loss to Boise State. He is listed No. 2 on the depth chart, but played most of the third and fourth quarters due to Ward’s injury.

Boyett starred at Napa High, earning special-mention All-America and State Player of the Year honors by maxpreps.com.
