NOTES AND QUOTES for a Labor Day in the Napa Valley:
Kevin Robledo caught 10 passes for 96 yards, but Chowan University lost to Old Dominion University Saturday night, 36-21, in Norfolk, Va.
Robledo, who is from Napa, also played football at Napa High School, Eastern Arizona College and Santa Rosa Junior College.
Chowan is an NCAA Division II independent school located in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Justin-Siena is listed on the bubble in Harold Abend’s season-opening Redwood Empire football report. The Braves dropped their opener last week to Sacred Heart Cathedral, 27-24, at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

Linebacker Jarred Pereira had three assisted tackles for Cal State Sacramento in the Hornets’ 38-3 loss to UNLV Saturday.
Pereira went to Vintage and is a transfer from Santa Rosa Junior College.

A goal by Natalie Loyola and assists by Annelise Brumley and Sandy Garcia helped the Solano Community College women’s soccer team to a 4-1 nonconference win Friday over Bakersfield in Livermore. The Falcons are off to a 2-1 start.
Loyola went to Vintage and Brumley and Garcia went to Napa.

Napa Valley players fared well in the Green Valley Junior Open Tournament, a Northern California U.S. Tennis Association event.
In the girls 18’s singles quarterfinals, Isabella Heidenreich of Napa beat Rickimae Torres of Danville (6-0, 6-3).
Stuart Miller of Napa lost to Marcus Vizcarra of Hercules in the quarterfinals of the boys 16’s singles division (6-3, 6-3).
In the quarterfinals of boys 18’s singles, Teddy Chung of Benicia beat Andrew Kelley of Napa (6-2, 6-0).

The 24th-ranked Sonoma State volleyball team picked up two more wins, defeating Western Washington 3-1 and Evergreen State 3-0 during the CWU Invitational in Ellensburg, Wash., last week.
Lindsay Brown of Napa had 54 assists in guiding the Seawolves’ offense against Western Washington. She also had two service aces, seven kills, seven digs and three block assists.
In the match against Evergreen, Brown had 22 assists, six digs and three block assists.
The Seawolves (8-0) have completed the nonconference portion of their schedule. The eight consecutive wins to start out the season ties a school record set by the 2001 squad.

Jason Lehman of Napa caught two passes for seven yards for Occidental College as the Tigers opened the 2009 football season with a 17-0 win over Menlo College in Atherton Saturday.
Lehman went to Justin-Siena.

Freshman striker Max Alvarez played 60 minutes and led Cal State Sacramento with six shots as the Hornets shut out UC Riverside 1-0 in a men’s soccer game last week.

Mike Gibson, a second-year guard, was among those players who were waived Saturday by Philadelphia as the Eagles got down to the NFL- mandated 53-man roster limit.
Gibson, a Napa High graduate who spent 2008 on injured reserve, played in each of the Eagles’ preseason games, even starting the finale against the New York Jets.
Gibson, a sixth-round draft pick who played at UC Berkeley, made great strides after spending a year on IR, the Eagles said on their Web site.
