NOTES AND QUOTES for a Tuesday in the Napa Valley:
Comcast Hometown Network, Comcast’s regional cable network covering Northern and Central California, will carry Napa High School’s Monticello Empire League football game against Vacaville this fall. The Indians and Bulldogs meet on Nov. 6 at Tom Zunino Stadium in Vacaville, with Comcast Hometown Sports televising the game on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.
Comcast will televise 13 high school football games as part of its expanding Comcast Hometown Sports programming. The games will be available on Channel 104 to all Comcast digital cable customers.
The telecasts will begin on Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. with a live four-game marathon from “The Battle at the Capital,” featuring Pittsburg, Granite Bay, Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa, Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep-San Francisco, and Central Catholic-Modesto playing in Folsom.
“High school football continues to be a key programming element for Comcast Hometown Network as we provide local and regional programming that viewers can’t get anywhere else,” said Jeff Giles, Director of Comcast Hometown Network. “Our Comcast Hometown Sports programming schedule continues to grow with another terrific block of live sporting events — in this case, some of Northern California’s best prep football teams.”
The play-by-play announcer for Comcast’s high school football games will be Dan Dibley of sports radio station KNBR-680 AM, while former San Jose SaberCats head coach Darren Arbet and University of Nevada football analyst Scott Gordon will split the color analyst duties. Tori Taylor, a former reporter for Current TV, will serve as sideline reporter.
Dibley is a mainstay of CHN’s prep coverage, having served as sideline reporter for the 2008 football season and the color commentator for the 2009 high school basketball season.
The prep contests will air on Saturdays at 7 p.m. on Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104), and will be replayed several times. They will also be available any time of the day or night via Comcast’s On Demand, which is free to Comcast digital customers.
CHN’s high school football schedule features many of the top prep teams in Northern and Central California, including Foothill-Pleasanton, California-San Ramon, Clayton Valley-Concord, Campolindo-Moraga, Las Lomas-Walnut Creek, Gilroy, Palo Alto, Kings Academy-Sunnyvale, Pleasant Grove-Elk Grove, and St. Mary’s-Stockton.
Comcast Hometown Network is a regional cable network produced by Comcast and available in the San Francisco Bay Area and Central California.

John Boyett begins the 2009 college football season No. 2 on the University of Oregon’s depth chart at free safety. Boyett, a redshirt freshman who wears No. 20, is also on the kickoff team and the hands team going into the season opener Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at Boise State. ESPN will carry the game.
Oregon is ranked No. 14 by USA Today and No. 16 by The Associated Press.
Boyett was held out of most contact drills during the spring due to injury. In 2008, his redshirt year, he was a three-time scout team player of the week, readying Oregon leading up to games against Boise State, Washington State and Oklahoma State.
At Napa High, Boyett earned First-Team All-State accolades by Calhisports.com and was an EA Sports Second-Team All-American. He was a PrepStar All-West Region selection and was the Northern California Player of the Year by GoldenStatePreps.com.
He completed his senior season passing for 1,827 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 1,527 yards and 20 TDs, leading the Indians to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship.
