Preseason football camp for the University of Oregon — which has John Boyett of Napa — is under way.

Oregon will hold approximately 30 workouts prior to its season opener Sept. 3 at Boise State. The game will be carried by ESPN.

Boyett, named First-Team All-State by CalHiSports.com and an EA Sports Second-Team All-American for Napa High School, is a redshirt freshman free safety. He was held out of most contact drills during the spring due to injury.

He’s a member of Oregon Iron Club, totaling 1,066 pounds in the clean, squat and bench during winter testing. He posted the third-highest vertical (32.5) and second-highest squat (445) among defensive backs during winter testing.

Last year as a redshirt, Boyett was a three-time scout team player of the week, readying Oregon leading up to games against Boise State, Washington State and Oklahoma State.
