NOTES AND QUOTES for a Monday in the Napa Valley:
After a year away from the game, former Napa High School standout Mackenzey Bard is returning to softball.
Bard, who turned down a scholarship from San Jose State this past year, will start school at Fresno City College this month.
She enrolled in cosmetology school last fall and will soon have her license. But six months into beauty school, she told her mom, Shelley Bard, a former Vintage High and Napa Valley College pitcher, that she misses the game and wanted to return to it.
Bard had a very good senior year for Napa High in 2008, earning Pitcher of the Year on the All-Napa County team, Second Team Overall as a multi-purpose player on the All-State team by CalHiSports.com, and First-Team on The Sacramento Bee’s All-Metro team.
Bard also set the record for the most career victories for any Napa Valley high school, with 67.
