Rachel Moreaux, representing the Sonoma-Marin-Napa chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association, won the low gross division of the championship flight of the EWGA semifinals for the Northern California area Saturday. Moreaux shot an 81 at Lincoln Hills Golf Club’s Orchards Course.
The first-place gross and net winners in each flight advance to the final round of the EWGA Championship presented by Callaway Golf, considered the largest amateur women’s golf competition in the U.S.
The 36-hole championship finals will be held at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Sept. 25-26. Now in its 14th year, this annual nationwide competition had over 2,400 participants in 2008.
There were seven EWGA chapters represented in the Northern California area.
The Sonoma-Marin-Napa chapter had additional placers — Sue Thompson (second low gross) and Martha Hagler (third low net) in the first flight, Kim Chapman (second low net) in the second flight, and Jenny Shone (third low gross) in the third flight.
The Sonoma-Marin-Napa chapter also won the scramble division.

Tyler Cravy, who was chosen by Milwaukee in the 17th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, is 1-0 with a 5.71 ERA for the Brewers’ rookie league team in Phoenix, Ariz.
Cravy, who had a record-setting season as a starting pitcher for Napa Valley College this past year, has appeared in seven games with one start. In 171⁄3 innings, the right-hander from Vallejo has given up 15 hits and 11 runs (all earned) while walking six and striking out 21.
As a freshman, he was named to the Community College Baseball All-America team. Cravy was chosen as the Bay Valley Conference’s Player of the Year as the Storm (22-18 overall, 16-11 BVC) took third place, missing out on the Northern California regional playoffs.
Cravy was 8-3 in 15 appearances with a 2.99 earned-run average. He broke Phil Simpson’s school record, set in 1988, by striking out 110 batters in 901⁄3 innings. Simpson had 108 strikeouts.

Max Alvarez of Napa led the way in the final game, scoring twice as the Davis Legacy 91’s, an under-19 boys soccer team, won the Super Group at the US Club Regionals with a 6-2 win over CASA Boca in June in Modesto.
Davis also had wins over Sacramento United (8-0), Seaside FC (10-0) and Oxnard FC (1-0).
Alvarez, the 2008 Napa County Player of the Year as a forward for Napa High, will attend Cal State Sacramento and play soccer on a scholarship in the fall. He scored 42 goals in leading Napa (15-9-2 overall, 10-4 Monticello Empire League) into the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs last fall.
He was also the Monticello Empire League’s leading scorer.
The left-footed kicker leaves Napa High as one of the best to have ever played soccer.
Alvarez scored 108 goals over the last three years, during which he was named to All-MEL and All-Napa County teams each year. He was named as the Indians’ MVP and Offensive Player of the Year following the 2008 season.
