NOTES AND QUOTES for a Tuesday in the Napa Valley:

Vintage High School has been selected to host the U.S. Tennis Association Northern California Adult League District Championships from Aug. 14-16. The announcement was made by Napa Valley Tennis Association.
Men’s and women’s tennis teams from Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties are slated to play against teams from San Francisco, Contra Costa County, Redding and Sacramento during the three-day event. Over 700 adult tennis players will be competing for a coveted District title.

There will be 36 teams from 10 designated local playing areas in Northern California participating in the District Championships. To qualify for “Districts,” each of these teams must prevail during their local league playing season, which began in April. Local league winners are determined at the local league play-offs, culminating the local league playing season.
Levels of competition for men and women are 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0. The team match format consists of two singles matches and three doubles matches.

The teams, which will represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, will vie for the opportunity to advance to the Northern California Adult League Section Championships, scheduled for Aug. 28-30.  Following the Sectional Championships, winning teams will go on to represent Northern California at the National Adult League Championships.
USTA League Tennis, first established in 1980, is the largest recreational tennis program in the world.

Over 625,000 adults participate nationwide in one of four national divisions — adult, senior (players over 50), super senior 60 and super senior

65. Players participate on teams in a league format, competing against players of similar ability levels.

Founded in 1967, the Napa Valley Tennis Association is a non profit, registered USTA Community Tennis Association dedicated to bringing quality tennis to the Napa community. The club maintains the Vintage High tennis facility and schedules all activities.

The USTA is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the U.S. It owns and operates the U.S. Open, one of the largest annually attended sporting events in the world.
