Redistricting

Little did I know that I traveled through the Tannery Bend District on the fateful visit that brought me to Napa.

The Work Party

It was my husband’s work party — a birthday party in Sacramento for three colleagues. My husband and I were looking for some well-earned time out to ourselves, but the babysitter had cancelled at the last minute.

Schools and the Constitution

In its last session, the Supreme Court made a ruling about the 4th amendment rights of students at public schools. In the case is Safford Unified School District v. April Redding, the Supreme Court ruled 8-1 that the strip search of Savana Redding, then a 13-year-old 8th grade student, was unwarranted and violated her 4th amendment right against unreasonable search.

Painstaking work to upgrade the Uptown

The essay from Joe Turner (“Its past time to fill downtown’s empty spaces,” July 6), which does not mention me by name, exercises the right we Americans enjoy of speaking our mind freely in a public forum. However, Turner has used innuendoes and suppositions in the place of facts.

What stores would you like to see in downtown Napa?

As Register writer Kevin Courtney's article states, the city of Napa is spending nearly $100,000 to have a consultant come up with a plan for filling 105,000 square feet of new commercial space and another 76,000 square feet in older buildings that sit empty.

Big tree down on the highway

When a tree falls on Highway 29, usually there are plenty of people around to see or hear it.

Providing leadership to move Napa forward

Dear editor, Kudos to Napa City Councilmember Peter Mott, who encouraged members of the Napa Sunrise Rotary club to volunteer and organize the downtown Fourth of July parade. A job well done — a community event we could all be proud of.

Peanut butter for a good cause

Dear editor, Many people depend on the Napa Valley Food Bank for supplies to make simple meals. I visited their distribution center last week and asked about the scarcity of fresh fruit and vegetables. The answer is simple and sad.

Health care reform needed right now

Dear editor, Right now congressional committees are meeting to construct new health care legislation. The lobbyists are standing by the doors with checkbooks in hand making promises for campaign funds if the legislation caves to their demands, making the whole process a shambles.

Road budgets explained

There was one big pothole on Highway 29 that I had driven over for years, I learned to look out for it every time I drove home, and there it would be. I could count on having to swerve around it. After a while I grew to like looking out for it, swerving on cue every time I went by.

Why do we have a death penalty?

I have often wondered about the logic behind the death penalty.
