11 a.m.A motorcyclist died Sunday after he lost control and slid into an oncoming car on Steele Canyon Road north of Highway 128.

Cyril Tynes, 27, of Fairfield was headed southbound on Steel Canyon Road at 11:55 a.m. Sunday when the crash took place, CHP Officer Jaret Paulson said.
Tynes was unable to negotiate a curve and slid across the double yellow line, according to Paulson. His 2006 Honda motorcycle crashed into a 1992 pickup headed northbound.

The driver of the car, Lauren Jones, 24, of Napa, was not injured, according to Paulson.
Jones was wearing a seatbelt. Tynes was wearing a helmet.

Paulson said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

" Gee Gods, Madge, I lived at the Berryessa Highlands from 1982-1988 and Steele Canyon Road is bear to drive, even for the locals. You MUST drive the speed limt of 35 or even less if you are not familiar with this 4 mile stretch from "The Corners" to the Steele Park Resort. RIP. "

My prayers for everyone involved, including the driver of the car. "

My thoughts and prayers go out to ALL involved in this horrific event. "

I hope that the tickets do get more exspensive when any one of us do not obey the safety rules of the road. God bless the family of this man and I for one am committed to safety, how about you? "

Yes. Thankfully, it appears the car driver was not physically injured. For simply operating her car in a normal legal fashion, she'll carry that days events all of her life. "

" Motorcycles are stupid. They've just been around so long now, that people don't recognize the obvious. It's simple. If you get on a motorcycle, you're risking your life far more than if you were in the protection of a car. "

reason-ator wrote on Jul 14, 2009 8:54 PM:

" You know, I'm thinking that it's not very considerate to talk about motorcycle safety in a thread about an article about a young man losing his life on one.

I'm going out on a limb here by saying that I'm sure his family and friends don't need to hear it right now.

Actually, it would be incredibly insensitive to bring that up here. I'm smart enough to recognize that, and yet I ride a motorcycle.

I apologize to the family and friends of Mr. Tynes for the less intelligent comments of some of our community members here. "

" I'm smart enough to stay off of a motorcycle. Also, I am very sensitive about the life-long regret you will suffer if you DON'T kill yourself in the process of smashing into a car. I think plenty of people have made it clear that this is a tragedy and that prayers go out to the family etc. This message is for those naive enough to think it would be totally cool to get on a suicycle. I apologize that some members of our community can't accept the awful truth and can actually be insensitive enough to support riding one of these things after such an awful yet common accident. "

" I'm sorry . but less intelligent? We all mourn and are sorry for his death but do you knowhow many people almost die up here because of the thoughtlessness of the moment for speed or thrill?? Try off road and go for it! Live's have been effected here and it is time to speak up! That is what this thread is about, speaking up! Keep the peace and please slowdown!!! Lovge you and keep speaking up for the guy but come on we all care...about everyone!!!! "

reason-ator wrote on Jul 15, 2009 10:14 AM:

" People die in cars every day. More people die in cars than on bikes. So should everyone quit riding in cars ?

I've heard it said that motorcyclists must not enjoy life very much because they risk losing their life every time they ride a motorcycle. That's EXTREMELY short-sighted. Every time I ride my motorcycle I feel MORE alive and I enjoy life more. Yes, I know it's a risk. Believe me, it's hard NOT to be aware of the risk when people look right at me and continue to move into my lane because they have such little regard for me because I "ride a suicycle".

But if you want to keep informing people about something you know nothing about, go ahead. The world needs more experts. I have driven cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Sports cars, muscle cars, fast cars, slow cars. I know how much MORE I enjoy motorcycles. I look at the autobots miserably sitting behind their steering wheels, and I am reminded how much more I am enjoying life. I feel so stupid.

If everybody rode motorcycles, we'd have more gasoline and less traffic congestion. That doesn't sound stupid. Sadly, too many people don't possess the skill or intelligence to ride them, and they're really missing out. I don't need their resentment- it's dangerous. "

10-50goodlife wrote on Jul 15, 2009 11:17 AM:

" You’re absolutely right reason-ator. And once you get nailed by a motorist, you too can become an expert. By the way, you left out the part where it seems you also drive a lot of bull. And while you are gathering statistics, consider that the reason that more people die in cars than on motorcycles is because many, many more people are driving cars. Also, exactly what kind of skill does it take to avoid being nailed by a car when they pull an illegal u-turn right in front of you from the curb-thus launching you off your bike as you smash into the top of the car while you are in mid flight? I really could have used your expertise. If you ask me, there are people who possess the skill to ride them, yet have the intelligence to stay off them. And I’m not promoting cars at all either… just safety and not-too-common sense. "

reason-ator wrote on Jul 15, 2009 11:42 AM:

" 10-50, I have been nailed by a motorist Thanks for the reminder.

But specifically what "bull" are you accusing me of driving ? Any specific misunderstanding that you'll provide me the opportunity to clarify, or just a vague and false representation in order to attempt to discredit me ?

Yeah, I kinda had an idea that more people are killed in cars because more people are driving them, and I thought it was obvious. Apparently, you needed an explanation. I apologize.

As far as avoiding T-boning an illegal u-turner, I'd like to suggest that maybe a broader perception of your surroundings, along with traffic, a heightened awareness while you're driving, and perhaps a more cautionary speed would be beneficial. I can't say for sure, and I sympathize with your plight. Perhaps if your fellow motorists demonstrated more awareness of their own and concern for others, and a little less attitude, the roads would be safer. And I'm gussing if the motorist you hit had been on a bike instead of a car, they would have been more cautious, with less visibility-restriction of the roof and pillars, would have been facing you instead of sitting in a position facing away from you, and would have presented a smaller profile that you would have been more able to avoid. I think you'll find that motorcyclists are more aware of their surroundings, because being in the protection of a car makes a driver feel safer and less concerned with the minor consequences of being hit.

But thanks for the reminder that there are hazards for me to avoid everywhere. I appreciate your concern for my well-being. And, as always, it's good to remember that some auto drivers with hostility really resent motorcyclists. "

" I've read the comments people have posted here and all but one talk about Mr Tynes himself. Mr Tynes was currently serving in the US Air Force, stationed at Travis AFB. Prior to that he had served 4 years in the US Marine Corps, which it's where I first met him. We served together in the same company and then in the same platoon. Mr Tynes was in the group of Marines to first land in Afghanistan in November of 2001.
Tynes, if you are reading this, just know that all your brothers from Charlie Co. 1/1 are praying for you! Rest in Peace Bro...Semper Fi! "

It is SO easy for people to label a person without a clue as to who they are talking about, and I'm glad that I am able now to realize that this young man fought for our freedom so that we can sit at home and courageously post stuff on the internet

Rest in Peace, Mr. Tynes. "

" Mr. Tynes sounds like quite an inspirational person. Unfortunately, after reading about his demise, it brought something that tragically happened to me to the surface. I’d like to get over it, but I can’t. After more than twenty years, I still have to deal with how I've been disfigured. Every time I read about a motorcycle accident I can’t help but feel the need to alert others of how they can change your life in an instant or even end it. If there was something that a previous post of mine may have given the reader an impression that I was disrespecting Mr. Tynes in any way, please take the time and read the posts again because that truly offends me. My message was directed to those who are still alive to take heed. I’d like to enlighten the readers that when a death occurs, the paper will usually print the cause. This may inspire the reader to concentrate on the cause if the cause makes a personal impact on them. Unfortunately, I never met Mr. Tynes or I probably would have added something positive to throw in. He sounds like he had a lot going for him. But if he could leave one last impression that could make people think before they risk their lives on such a vulnerably designed machine, then his death will not have been in vain. Fortunately the Register did not allow any back-peddling by deleting any previous posts in this article, so you can clearly see that I referred to motorcycles in a derogatory way and not the riders. As a former rider, I know that there’s nothing anybody can say to change one’s mind about riding. But you can wake up in the hospital with a whole new outlook. Trust me. "

" Cj was the sweetest and funniest person i ever met. I worked with him at Best Buy and used to go out on the backroads with cj and katie and ride with them a lot. He was always careful and smart about everything he did and for people to say he was being carless is heartbreaking. Thats not true at all. Katie i pray for both of you and his family back home. I miss him so much, just like all of you.

He had just finished working on a project car of his and just got it painted. It was his baby. Not only that but riding was a passion of his and whenever he could get out and ride he would and always made sure he had somebody with him.. he never went alone. He's been riding the backroads of berryessa since he moved to ca.

Hes in a better place now and we'll all be thinking and praying. "
