The suspect in the shooting death last week of a Calistoga man was arrested in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon.

Rodolfo Uribe, 23, was arrested by police at the home of a relative in Compton, said Calistoga Police Chief Jonathan Mills. Uribe was taken in without incident at about 2 p.m.
Mills said the arrest of Uribe was made with the assistance of the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI Fugitive Task Force, as well as the Napa County Sheriff’s Department and investigators from the Napa County District Attorney’s Office.

Two Calistoga police officers were sent to Los Angeles to retrieve the suspect.
Mills said he could not elaborate on how Uribe was tracked down. “Let’s just leave it that he was arrested at a relative’s home,” he said.

Mills also said Uribe will be asked to waive extradition from Los Angeles County and be brought back to Napa County Jail as early as Thursday morning.
“He’ll have a choice to refuse extradition and stay in jail in Compton, which I imagine is a lot worse than jail in Napa County,” Mills said. “Hopefully, he’ll do the smart thing.”

Uribe is accused of killing Luis Octavio Carrillo, 26, of Calistoga, at 1:30 a.m., June 29 on the 1400 block of North Oak Street, near the Napa County Fairgrounds.

The early morning killing was the first in the Upvalley community in     22 years.

When Calistoga police arrived at the scene, Carrillo was found lying in the street. According to the police, Carrillo lived near the scene of the incident.

John Waters Jr. of the Weekly Calistogan contributed to this report.

" FBI might have been concerned if he crossed jurisdictions? Either way, sounds like Calistoga PD pulled off a big arrest -- especially for such a small department! Way to go Curtis and Carolina! "

" Good Job to all the law enforcement officers that were involved to find the murder suspect Uribe. Thank you officer Madrigal and officer Wiegers for taking this alleged murder off our streets and hopefully justice will give Uribe what he deserves if he is the one who is the murderer . Napa County Jail is a hotel compared to LA County jails, so hopefully Uribe will waive his extradition to come to Napa County Hotel aka Napa County Jail. "

" Very impressive - and timely - results. Well done to all agencies involved (assuming that this suspect ends up being perpetrator).

And something tells me that he may prefer Napa County Jail to Compton's...just a hunch, of course... "

" Octavio Carrillo's life was cut very short (too short)... in the time that we have known him...he was a kind and wonderful person-always had a smile on his face and was always there for his family and friends. I am glad to her that his killer is behind bars and I hope that Uribe and those involved get the full punishment they deserve. At least his capture will bring some solace to his family that way they can begin the healing process. My prayers go out to Octavio Carrillo's parents-who lost a wonderful son. "

" Great job. It's good to see that this hasn't become one of those that quietly slips past the southern border. "

" NUHS, I think CPD and NSO were involved in identifying him and apprehending him -- not just transporting.

I heard the guy was already in Napa Jail as of early this morning! A quick search on the county website shows that he is, in fact, in custody at Napa County Jail! That was quick. "
