Calistoga murder suspect caught

The suspect in the shooting death last week of a Calistoga man was arrested in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon.

Rodolfo Uribe, 23, was arrested by police at the home of a relative in Compton, said Calistoga Police Chief Jonathan Mills. Uribe was taken in without incident at about 2 p.m.

Mills said the arrest of Uribe was made with the assistance of the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI Fugitive Task Force, as well as the Napa County Sheriff’s Department and investigators from the Napa County District Attorney’s Office.

Two Calistoga police officers were sent to Los Angeles to retrieve the suspect.

Mills said he could not elaborate on how Uribe was tracked down. “Let’s just leave it that he was arrested at a relative’s home,” he said.

Mills also said Uribe will be asked to waive extradition from Los Angeles County and be brought back to Napa County Jail as early as Thursday morning.

“He’ll have a choice to refuse extradition and stay in jail in Compton, which I imagine is a lot worse than jail in Napa County,” Mills said. “Hopefully, he’ll do the smart thing.”

Uribe is accused of killing Luis Octavio Carrillo, 26, of Calistoga, at 1:30 a.m., June 29 on the 1400 block of North Oak Street, near the Napa County Fairgrounds.

The early morning killing was the first in the Upvalley community in     22 years.

When Calistoga police arrived at the scene, Carrillo was found lying in the street. According to the police, Carrillo lived near the scene of the incident.
