A former Vintage High School math teacher has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for sexually molesting a male teen.

Sonoma County Superior Court Visiting Judge Julie Conger sentenced  Josefat (Joe) Estrada, 35, to seven years and four months in state prison last week, according to Estrada’s Napa-based attorney, Jeffrey Hammond.
In May, Estrada entered a no contest plea to three charges related to sexual acts with a person under the age of 18. He also agreed to register as a sex offender and give up his teaching credential.

Hammond said Conger did not give Estrada the maximum sentence of nine years and four months behind bars, and credited Estrada with 344 days of time already served in jail.
Hammond said Estrada entered the plea as a result of a deal with prosecutors. On May 8, Sonoma County prosecutors dropped seven of 10 original molestation-related charges against Estrada.

Estrada’s conviction stems from incidents with a boy who lived with him in Sonoma County that began in August 2005 when the boy was 14 and continued through July 2007.
Police arrested Estrada in November 2008 at his Napa home.

The boy, now  an adult, was never a student at Vintage High School.

" This is happening all over the country. Go to www.schoolteachernews.com and click on the Scandal page. This year they have documented over 275 of these types of incidents. In 2008 they found 478 of these kinds of cases. "

" Wow! Now we have two teachers in prison from our school district. Mrs. McWilliams for shooting her lover with her handgun and now this guy. What about the teacher who was arrested last year and charged with vandalism? What ever happened to that case? "

" Its too bad, he was a really good math teacher.
Justice prevails, I feel for the young man and hope he is undergoing counseling for the abuse. "

" Again.......too bad Mr. Estrada got only 7 years. Seems like just a drop in the bucket for the permanent damage he has done to a young mans life.
Enjoy your stay in the big stone hotel on the States tax dollars....this bill I have not a problem contributing to. Say Hey to Bubba....your new roommate for me.
Best wishes.......Napa Nana and family. "

" I feel extremely insulted when the closing statement seems to infer that his crimes are somewhat softened since: "The boy, now an adult, was never a student at Vintage High School.

I can't be the only one put off by this. "

" Savenapa -- I can see your point, but I think that's a good bit of information for the article. It's placement as the last line might be odd, but really, how could this subject be anything but off putting? :) "
