Solano CC to host youth football camp
The Solano Community College football program, led by head coach Floyd Burnsed, will host a series of two-day youth football clinics in early July.
Here’s a look at the camp offerings and schedules:
• Burnsed, who has coached for over 30 years and specialized in quarterbacking, will conduct a quarterback-receiver-running back clinic July 6-7 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each day.
Each youngster will receiver a manual with techniques, rules and drills, as well as a camp T-shirt. Cost is $60 before July 2 and $75 after.
• There will be a linebacker and defensive back camp on July 8-9 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. each day. The Solano staff and players will address the fundamentals of those positions. Cost is $30 before July 2 and $40 after.
• There will be a lineman camp July 10 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $20 in advance and $30 after that date.

Babe Ruth fall baseball sign-ups continue today
Napa Babe Ruth 13-15 age division will be conducting a 2009 fall baseball program. Teams will be assembled starting in early August and will start practicing on Aug. 15.
Sign-ups will be conducted at Kennedy Park on Tuesday, June 30, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, July 1, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The cost is $145. Registration forms will be available at sign-ups or can be downloaded from the Document Center at napa.baberuthonline.com.
Players who have not participated in Napa Babe Ruth or Cal Ripken programs within the last year must have birth certificates available for verification of player age.
Pyramid hoop camp at Napa Christian through July 3
The Pyramid Basketball Camp will be held at Napa Christian beginning Monday and running through July 3. The day camp goes Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
The camp is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 18 (grades 5-12).
The cost is $175.

Basketball Jones youth camps return to Napa July 6
Basketball Jones Hoop Camps will host two camps in Napa, at St. Apollinaris Catholic School, July 6-10, and at Napa Valley College, Aug. 10-14.
Camps run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and are for boys and girls ages 7 to 15.
All campers receive 40 hours of instruction, a basketball, a T-shirt, a water bottle and a DVD.

Storm Baseball Academy begins July 6
The Napa Valley College Storm Baseball Academy will be held for players 7 to 12 years of age. There will two sessions, July 6-9 and July 20-23.
Both sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Instructors include the Storm coaching staff led by head coach Bob Freschi and pitching coach Warren Brusstar, a former Major League pitcher.

Tee Off Fore Kids Golf Invitational July 10
The Active 20-30 Club of Napa will host the inaugural Tee Off Fore Kids Golf Invitational on Friday, July 10, at Eagle Vines Vineyards and Golf Club.
Check-in will be 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. There will be a shotgun start and scramble format play beginning at 1:30 p.m.
There will be a dinner and reception at 6 p.m.
The cost for golf is $155, and for dinner only is $45.

Pure Potential soccer camp set for July
Pure Potential Academy Soccer Camps still has openings for enrollment for the 2009 soccer training season. Abe Torres has a method of training that incorporates a patent visual training aid he has invented to develop accuracy and consistency in soccer fundamentals. The training camps will be held July 6-10 and July 13-17 — both from Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at West Park Elementary School. Summer basketball camps at NVC start July 13
Napa Valley College is offering two summer basketball camps for sixth-, seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders.
The boys camp will be held on July 13-16.
The girls camp will be held on July 27-30.
The camps go from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The registration fee is $80 for the week. Campers must have a waiver filled out by a parent.

Adult Education golf classes start July 13
Napa Valley Adult Education is offering a series of five-week beginning and intermediate golf classes at Vintner’s Golf Club in Yountville.
The cost for the entire five-week session is $97. Beginning golf classes meet Monday or Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., starting July 13 or 14. Intermediate golf classes meet Wednesday or Thursday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., starting July 15 or 16.

Vintage High football passing clinic July 13-18
The Vintage High School football staff will coach a non-contact passing clinic and 7-on-7 tournament in July. It’s for youths ages 9 to 14 and will be held on the Vintage High football field.
In an effort to help prepare each player for his upcoming season, focus will be made during the week on organized drills to improve agility, strength and overall knowledge of football.
The passing clinic runs July 13-17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The 7-on-7 passing tournament is July 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At the end of the week, there is a 7-on-7 passing tournament to be held at Napa Memorial Stadium.
The cost is $100.
Registration includes a T-shirt, which will be handed out the first day, and $25 of each registration will go to the youth football organization of the player’s choice.
Each player must bring cleats and a mouth piece every day of the clinic.

Napa High youth summer football camp starts July 27
Napa High Indian football will hold its annual non-contact youth football camp at its practice field July 27-31, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.
The camp features daily skill instruction in every football position by current varsity coaches and former varsity players, low camper-to-coach ratios, and a 7-on-7 passing tournament directed by the Napa High coaching staff.
The camp is open to any student-athlete entering fifth through eighth grades.
The last day of the camp will be at Memorial Stadium.
The cost is $195 per camper.

Napa spiritleaders youth clinic July 27-31
Napa High School’s national champion spiritleaders and coaches will host a week-long cheer and dance camp July 27-31.
Students will learn dance technique, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, pom and sideline cheers, finishing with a performance at Memorial Stadium on Friday night during the Napa High School football camp halftime.
Camp times are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to noon, and Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium to cheer and perform.
The camp is open to students entering second through eighth grade.
The cost is $195 and includes cheer and dance instruction, daily snack and water, T-shirt and participation ribbon.

Trinity Prep seeking soccer coach
Trinity Prep is looking for an experienced coach who is enthusiastic about teaching the game of soccer to run the varsity programs.
A quality candidate for this job must have a firm grasp of coaching and teaching the game of soccer and is willing and able to work with players of varying degrees of experience level and talent.
Teaching the fundamentals and basic skills of the game will be vital.

Youth wrestling for middle-schoolers
The Napa Slammers Wrestling Club is open to middle-school students who would like to learn the fundamentals of folk style and freestyle wrestling.
The club is sponsored by the Napa Sheriffs Activities League. There is no cost to participate.

Justin-Siena summer sports camps all summer
Justin-Siena has announced its summer camp schedule for 2009 that features opportunities for athletes interested in a variety of sports.
Justin’s camp program is designed for students 8 years old to high school-aged.
Here’s a look at the camp schedule:
• Braves Aquatics Camp
(Water Polo and Swimming)
The Justin-Siena Aquatics Camp will be held at Napa Valley College and is open to boys and girls 8 to 18 years of age.
Water polo instruction will include rules of the game, referee signals, eggbeater kick, individual ball handling skills (dribbling, passing, shooting and drawing fouls) and more.
Advanced instruction and conditioning will be offered to high school participants. Camp staff will include Tom Coughlan (head aquatics coach at Justin-Siena High School) as well as other highly qualified coaches in the area, including former All-Americans and national team players.
There will be two sessions. The first is July 27-Aug. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. The second will be Aug. 10-13 from 8 to 11 a.m.
The cost per session is $200.
• Braves Soccer Camp
The Braves soccer coaching staff will emphasize skill development and building stamina in the camps at Dodd Stadium on the Justin campus.
The session for boys and girls in fifth and sixth grade is July 20-24 from 9 am. to 1 p.m. The seventh- and eighth-grade session is July 27-31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost per session is $125.
• Braves Cheer Camp
This camp will explore several dance and cheer techniques to campers working with the award-winning Justin-Siena cheerleaders and coaches. The camp will be held on campus July 6-9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $100.
Individuals in grades third through eighth are urged to attend.
• Braves Volleyball Camp
Coach Kelly Porter and a group of college, high school and club coaches will instruct the camps at Clark Gym on campus. The camp will be held July 20-23 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $125.
• Braves Baseball Camp
The Justin-Siena baseball coaching staff will hold a comprehensive week-long camp focusing on fundamentals of baseball at the Justin-Siena varsity baseball field. The camp is for players in sixth through ninth grades and will be held June 22-26 from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $125.
• Braves Tennis Camp
Justin is offering two week-long sessions geared toward elementary and middle school students.
Braves tennis coach Chris Swain will lead students through group activities and personalized instruction at the Justin-Siena tennis courts.
The session for grades four through eight will be held July 6-10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The high school camp will be July 13-17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The cost is $125.
• Braves Football Camp
The section champion Justin-Siena coaching staff will teach football fundamentals and accountability to teammates at Dodd Stadium.
The varsity camp will be held June 8-Aug. 13 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $135.
The freshman and junior varsity camp will be held from July 7-Aug. 13 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $135.
The camp for players in fourth through eighth grade is July 6-10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $125.

Napa Golf Course instruction this summer
Napa Golf Course will offer couples golf lessons for men and women of all ability levels July 11-Aug. 8, Aug. 15-Sept. 12, and Sept. 19-Oct. 17. The fee is $150 per couple for five one-hour Saturday sessions, which each start at 10 a.m. Classes are limited to the first four couples that register.
Other instructional opportunities:
• The Ladies Night Out clinic provides one hour of instruction to the beginner or novice, followed by wine and cheese at Jack’s Bar and Grille. It meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays. Remaining sessions are July 20-Aug. 17, and Aug. 24-Oct. 5. The cost is $89 per session.
• For the Ladies Sunday Clinic, participants must have completed a Ladies Night Out clinic or have more knowledge than a beginner. It will run from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Sundays. The remaining dates are Aug. 9-Sept. 6, and Sept. 20-Oct. 4 and Oct. 18. Cost is $89.
• A Junior “Rookies” Camp is for players ages 6-11 who have limited or no knowledge of the game. The fee is $99 for the course, which runs July 7-10 from 1 to 2 p.m. daily.
• The Juniors “Next Level” clinic will target the intermediate junior who would like to be more competitive by learning course management and strategy and building on a strong fundamental base.
Students will have the opportunity to play on the course. The fee is $109 for four one-hour classes. The dates are July 14-17 and Aug. 4-7, from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. each day.

Saints open youth football registration
The Napa Saints Youth Football & Cheerleading organization is now accepting registration for the 2009 season.
Practice begins on Saturday, Aug. 1.
Registration forms may be downloaded from the Napa Saints Web site at www.napasaints.com.
The program also needs volunteers to coach in the cheerleading program — no experience necessary. If interested, contact Stacey Kaiser at 337-5648.
Napa Golf Course junior practice begins
Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park will be holding practice sessions for junior golfers on Thursdays throughout the summer months.
The practice time is 2 to 3 p.m. Juniors may play golf after that.
These practice sessions are for youths ages 12 to 18 and includes both boys and girls. It will be determined throughout the practice sessions as to who will play for the Kennedy junior golf teams, which are members of the North Bay Junior League.
This summer, Kennedy will have two junior teams — one boys team and one girls team. Seven matches are scheduled this summer, either on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, and started with a match at the Windsor Golf Course on June 15.
There is lunch and practice at noon, followed by golf beginning at 1 p.m.
A final fun tournament will be held on Aug. 4, where all youngsters can play as well as parents. It will be necessary for youngsters to provide their own transportation to the matches, or arrange a carpool.
Practice sessions are free of charge, with Napa Golf Course furnishing range balls and instruction. Those that are asked to join the golf team will pay a $45 fee, which includes lunch at the matches, a golf shirt, six medium buckets of range balls, and six rounds of golf.
At the final match in August, organizers will ask each junior and parent that plays for a $10 donation to defray the cost of lunch and prizes.
The Kennedy junior team is looking for cash donations and good used golf balls to help with expenses. To make a donation, call Jack Walters at 738-6774.
Vintage High freshman basketball conditioning
The Vintage High basketball program is starting its summer conditioning program. Players will get all the information in regards to the summer program, tournaments and open gyms.

Napa Valley Swim Team accepting new members
The Napa Valley Swim Team is accepting new members, ages 6-18, to all levels of its year-round competitive program.
Practices are held at the Napa Valley College pool with the swimmer’s schedule determined by level.
Tryouts are conducted Fridays at 5 p.m. or by appointment.
Prospective members should be able to swim 25 yards of both freestyle and backstroke. For questions or to arrange a tryout, call 257-7946.
