A Taste of Howell Mountain

Thirty-nine wineries who are members of the Howell Mountain Vintners and Growers Association will be pouring current releases at A Taste of Howell Mountain Saturday  at the Charles Krug Winery, 2800 Main St. in St. Helena. The event, a fundraiser for the Howell Mountain Elementary School in Angwin, also includes a live and silent auction.

The wines are predominantly cabernet sauvignon, zinfandel and other red wines made from the mountain’s grapes all grown above the 1,400 ft. elevation mark that forms of the boundary of the Howell Mountain appellation.

Production from primarily family-owned wineries of Howell Mountain are small, high quality and sometimes hard to find on store shelves. It was the first sub-appellation within Napa Valley to be officially recognized by the federal government 

The silent auction takes place during the wine tasting, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.  The live auction at 5:30 p.m.  includes a line-up of approximately 30 auction lots including winemaker dinners, a rafting trip with winemaker Randy Dunn on the Rogue River, luncheons at wineries, a plane ride over Napa Valley piloted by one of the winemakers along with large format wine bottles 

Taste of Howell Mountain takes place in the newly remodeled historic Carriage House at the Charles Krug Winery.  The Peter Mondavi family has hosted this event several times. Tickets are $95 per person and are available online at www.howellmountain.org or by phone at (707) 965-2665.
