Three people were hospitalized Saturday in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 12, according to police and fire authorities.

The crash east of Kirkland Ranch Road was reported a little before 3 p.m.
The three victims, whose names were not available Saturday afternoon, were westbound in a 2000 blue Dodge Caravan when a red Ford F-150 truck rear-ended their vehicle, California Highway Patrol Officer Edward Espos said.

The Dodge Caravan then hit a BMW in front of it, he said.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan and two passengers were taken by ambulance to Queen of the Valley Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries, according to Espos and CalFire-Napa County Fire Engineer Shane Beck.

The driver of the F-150 pickup truck, Javier Cazares, 42, of Napa, and the driver of the BMW, Timothy Cohen, of Sparks, Nev., were not taken to the hospital, Espos said.
A dog found inside the Dodge caravan was not injured, Espos said.

The dog, which was tied to a vine post while officers and firefighters worked, was expected to be held in a shelter temporarily by Animal Control Services in Napa.

The crash may have been caused by possible inattention, Espos said. Cazares, who was alone in his truck, said he was driving at 35 miles per hour, Espos said.

That may have been too fast for the traffic conditions, he said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Espos said.  The accident remains under investigation.

Traffic was blocked temporarily in both directions.

Woman finds intruder drinking in her house

A woman returned her house on Atlas Peak Road Saturday afternoon to find a stranger sitting on a couch, drinking wine, eating peanuts and watching television, the Napa County Sheriff’s Department reported on Saturday.

The woman called ‘911’ before seeking help from the CalFire station on nearby Monticello Road. Sheriff’s deputies found Steve O’Dell, 29, near the house, Napa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Doug Wilkinson said.

The incident took place in the 1000 block of Atlas Peak Road about 4:30 p.m.

O’Dell was arrested and booked into Napa County Jail on suspicion of burglary and other counts.

" Yes, all you "kill the Silverado Trail" fans, this section of Hwy. 12 is also known as Jameson Canyon Rd. (why omitted by the NVR I do not know).

Apparently all those safety rumble devices performed their job flawlessly, because there are NEVER accidents on Jameson Canyon Road anymore, since their installation. And the accidents that DO occur on this "now safe" stretch of roadway are NEVER due to INATTENTION."

Just one more clue for the clueless. "

" opinionator: Pay attention please. This accident was NOT due to crossing over the center line. What? do you have stock in Silverado Trail or something?? "

" DL: Nope, No stock in ST. I just like it the way it is and am intelligent enough to realize that no amount of idiot-proofing it will reduce or prevent future accidents resulting in injury or death. Any money that you suggest we use to make our roadways safer can be put to far greater use in any number areas. If you don't like the ST the way it is, simply stay off of it. "

" in response to the woman who found the intruder in her home, this is another classic example of why napa co residents should have the 7 digit emergency number for napa dispatch programmed into their cells. 253-0911 goes straight to dispatch and you bypass the 911 system which goes to CHP when called from a cell. bay area CHP is very busy and I have been put on hold many times when trying to report an accident or fire.
