Clint Smith, Napa High School’s head baseball coach from 1972 to 1983 and a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, died Monday at Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center after a short illness. Smith was 79.

John Rutherford and his son Aiden (above) caught this 25-inch, 8-pound rainbow trout on the Upper East Carson River with a Spiderman children’s pole and an old minnow lure Aiden found on the bank. They had purchased the Spiderman pole at Sweeney’s a couple of weeks prior to fish at their pond at their home in Napa.
