707's Finest wins consolation title

NOTES AND QUOTES for a Friday in the Napa Valley:
Late free throws by Tyler Imhoff of Napa High School and Chris Lopez of Justin-Siena sealed the Top Court/707’s Finest’s 50-45 win over Bay Area Hoosiers Gray in the consolation championship game of the American Division silver bracket in the Rumble in the Bay AAU boys basketball tournament.
Imhoff had 12 points and Lopez finished with seven points for 707’s Finest. Ben Molinari of Vintage and Tyler Thesman of Pacific Union College Prep also play on 707’s Finest, which trailed 8-2 early on and 25-20 at halftime.
Ninety-six teams from throughout the West Coast took part in the three-day tournament, which was held over the Memorial Day weekend. Cupertino High, Independence High-San Jose, Woodside High, Wilcox High-Santa Clara and Canada College-Redwood City hosted the games.
The 707’s Finest play in an offseason basketball program.

Jared Lemke and Nathan Edwards starred for the Napa Legion 14’s in Central Valley Athletic League baseball wins over Stockton Monday, 16-10, and Petaluma Wednesday, 5-0.
In the victory over Stockton, Napa exploded for 14 hits, with Lemke homering and driving in three runs. Taylor Martin, Kyle Mitchell, Lemke and Edwards all had multiple-hit games. Ryan Anderson, Brett Obranovich, Emerson Hipp, Dom Good, Matt Estes and Cody Warrington also had hits.
Edwards set the pace on the mound against Petaluma by throwing a 70-pitch, complete-game shutout. Napa’s defense helped Edwards out by turning three double plays to thwart any Petaluma threat.
Anderson, Edwards, Lemke, Estes and Obranovich keyed the offense for Napa (7-2-1).
The Legion 14’s resume play on Monday against Stockton at 5 p.m. at the Veterans Home of California’s Cleve Borman Field in Yountville and will travel with the Napa Legion 13’s to a USSSA tournament in Redding on June 13 and 14.

Brett Wallace had one of his best games for Triple-A Memphis, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs as the Redbirds beat the Iowa Cubs Monday, 6-2, in a Pacific Coast League game.
Wallace, who played at Justin-Siena and Arizona State, played first base in the game. It was his second home run since being called up to Triple-A.
Wallace was a first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in last year’s major league draft.

KVON-1440 AM will carry the Napa Little League City championship baseball game on Saturday, June 13 from the Royce Hall Complex at Garfield Park.
The broadcast starts at 12:45 p.m.
KVON Sports Director Ira C. Smith will handle the play-by-play. Smith will be joined by Terry Simpkins and Allen Rossi, who will provide color commentary.
KVON will also broadcast the East-West Charity All-Star Football Classic — which features graduating seniors from Napa, Solano and Yolo counties — on July 18.

Thanks to the organizational work of Walter Kirby, soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan will be the guests of a dinner program Saturday at the Veterans Home of California in Yountville. The soldiers are with “The Pathway Home Program.”
The dinner is not open to the public.
Kirby, a Vietnam war veteran and Vets Home resident, is one of the biggest supporters of the Napa American Legion baseball program.
Legion teams play their home games at Cleve Borman Field, located at the Vets Home.
