In recent years, the North Bay Catholic Schools track and field meet has become synonymous with blistering heat. The 2009 event last Sunday at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa was no exception.

Justin-Siena’s CIF North Coast Section Division IV playoff game Saturday at Healdsburg has been moved up to a 2:30 p.m. start time. It will be played at Healdsburg High School.
Little League (Minor-A): Napa Valley Cast Stone 2, RE Maher 0
Napa Valley Cast Stone blanked RE Maher behind starting pitcher Max Hautala, who went 51⁄3 innings and struck out 11. Closing pitcher Hunter Scriven took over with one out in the sixth and closed out RE Maher with two strikeouts of his own. Offensively, Hautala helped his cause with a base hit that plated Matthew Hansell in the fourth. In the fifth inning, three singles by Carson Seibert, Brenden Neal and Jacob Castleberry brought Seibert in for the second and final NVCS run.
