A former Vintage High School math teacher pleaded no contest Thursday to three counts of molestation.

Josefat (Joe) Estrada entered the no contest plea in Sonoma County Superior Court, according to his attorney, Jeffrey Hammond of Napa.
As a result of Estrada’s pleas to two counts of oral copulation with a person under age 18 and one count of oral copulation of an unconscious individual, seven other charges were dismissed by the prosecutor, Hammond said.

Estrada, 35, will have to give up his teaching credential and register as a sex offender, according to Hammond. Sentencing is set for July 1 in Sonoma County Superior Court.
The incidents reportedly began in August 2005, when the boy was 14, and continued through July 2007, while Estrada and the boy lived in the same Sonoma County residence.

Estrada was arrested in November 2008 at his Napa home on Soscol Avenue. The boy, who is now 18, has never been a student at Vintage. Estrada was a trusted friend of the family, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department.
After his arrest, Estrada was relieved of his teaching duties and placed on unpaid administrative leave by the Napa Valley Unified School District.

" Oh, boy, I betcha the keys are flying now on all those NVR frequent bloggers! This is really sad that this has come this. Out of fairness, this person was well liked by his students. I am sure they are all going to be disappointed. "

" And......what about his prison sentence? Where is that, may I ask? He admits that he has commited a dispicable crime against a child....that he will likely suffer from for the rest of his life........and he gets NO prison time? If I get to spouting the rest of my opinion it will never go to print "

" NapaNana, read the last sentence (no pun) in the article.

The "oral copulation of an unconscious individual." just about gave me whiplash. This guy is dangerous. "

" "No contest" "GUITLY" They both mean the samething! The guy is guilty of the crime he was charged with!

Where is the support for his victims? I certainly don't see it here! Any victims of this man's crime, or that of others, I want you to know I support you 100%. You are in my heart, and in my prayers!

"realnewnapa" What does his crime have to do with him being in the wrong place at the wrong time? "

" I'm sure he was well liked. People like this are very manipulative. We entrusted this person with our most prized possessions. OUR KIDS! He betrayed that trust and took a child's innocence from them. Doesn't it make it you wonder why this person chose teaching? Hmm! "

" Seems like our schools would be safer if they employed only married teachers. I'm not saying that married folks can do no wrong, but the likelihood of them being into illegal sexual acts is less. "

Old Time Napkin wrote on May 9, 2009 5:21 PM:

" Hopefully this guy will get the maximum sentence. I don't care if he was a good teacher or not, he's still a dangerous person. He took advantage of young kids and maybe caused psychological damage to them for life. Lock him up and throw away the key! "

" Okay bloggers, I am a teacher and I worked with this person. Yes, what he plead no contest to was wrong. And, what he did was wrong, but he has an illness. He had encounters with a young man that was in his home, not in his classroom. As for John Richards, I am a single person, so, according to your statement I should be shunned from teaching because I am not married? Maybe all single people shoudl be put in one place, because according to the standards, not being married, makes me a scary person? Wow! Thank you for letting me know where I stand with napa residents; I am not valued by the hard work I do at my job; but what I do in my personal life. Name any other public profession, that questions life norms besides politicians? Napa news good luck "

" oh abcteacher,........ i just don't know what to say about your comment to keep this post from being kicked to the curb.

It sounds like you are justifying his actions because of a sickness. "

eyeamme wrote on May 9, 2009 11:46 PM:

" WOW! JR! Want to back that insane statement up with some evidence? I want to see statistics that show that married people are less likely to commit such acts. I don't think being or not being married has anything to do with it. "

luckyloo wrote on May 10, 2009 10:03 AM:

" Alright abcteacher09, I worked with this teacher as well. He had this HOLIER THAN THOU attitude like I'm the best teacher in the world. Look at me, I've got everybody fooled. I believe Charles Manson also had an illness. "

NapaNana wrote on May 10, 2009 3:53 PM:

" Hmmm.....nothing like getting my comments kicked to the curb.........No kidding huh Sammy? I know.....abcteacher neads some learning. Charles Manson. He was sooo well liked by his peers. People loved him...trusted him...followed him.....helped him........until the real "him" came out into the open. Great parallel lucky.
Many hugs to the poor victim. "

" What is the name of the "illness" thats makes people do this type of behavior? I sure can't find it. Oh, I agree, lock him up, throw away the key. There are many support groups, mental health providers that assist with victims of this type of crime. "

realnewnapa wrote on May 22, 2009 5:49 PM:

" actually "John Richards" thats kinda saying that all married folks arent dangerous then obviously u haven't seen "To catch a predator" most of them are married an look they are still just as capable as unwed folks "
