Ex-Vintage star all-conference for Cal State East Bay

Samantha Sciutto, a freshman who plays third base for Cal State East Bay of Hayward, was named to the all-California Pacific Conference First Team for softball.
Sciutto, a Vintage High School graduate, led the Pioneers in home runs, RBIs, walks and on base percentage. East Bay ended the season in third place and will move to NCAA-Division II for the 2010 season.
A criminal justice major, Sciutto has a 3.56 GPA.
She was a First-Team all-Napa County player for Vintage and played four years of softball for the Crushers. She has also played in the Napa Valley Girls Fastpitch Association at Napa Kiwanis Park and for the California Tornadoes of Fairfield.

Lea Wallace was second in the 800-meter run, clocking 2:10.59, as the Cal State Sacramento women’s track and field team beat UC Davis in the Causeway Classic Friday at a rainy Hornet Stadium, 103.5-81.5.
Wallace is a Vintage graduate and a three-time CIF state meet qualifier.

Brett Wallace hit his fifth home run of the year last week, leading the Double-A Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals past the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 6-2.
Wallace starred at Justin-Siena and Arizona State. He was a first-round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2008 major league draft.

Running for Williams College (Williamstown, Mass.) in the New England Small College Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships, St. Helena’s Brian Cole finished fifth in the men’s 800-meter run (1:54.51) and sixth in the 1500 (4:00.01) last week. The meet was held at Connecticut College in New London, Conn.
Williams won the team title.

Micah Putnam’s towering two-run home run down the left-field line in the fourth inning wasn’t enough, as Cal State Northridge fell to host Cal State Fullerton Saturday, 4-3, in a Big West Conference softball game.
The homer was the fourth of the season for Putnam, a Justin-Siena graduate, who plays second base. She now has 32 RBIs.

Cal State Sacramento, with Erin DeGoede at coxswain, finished second in the varsity eight grand final during the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships Sunday. It the held at the Sac State Aquatic Center at Gold River.
Sacramento’s other rowing teams each finished among the top six boats, giving the Hornets the WIRA team trophy. Crews had to deal with rain and cross winds throughout the day.

Napa High’s Tatum Souza was fifth in the girls long jump at 17-0 during the Sacramento Meet of Champions Saturday at Hughes Stadium.

Tomas Donnelly is batting .300 in 23 games for the Cal State Stanislaus (Turlock) baseball team.
Donnelly, a Vintage graduate and transfer from Napa Valley College, has two home runs and seven RBIs.
