Fairfield steals show at track meet

The Napa High and Vintage track and field teams competed in the same meet Wednesday, but not against each other — officially, anyway.

When Brad Lloyd picked up the phone April Fool’s Day and the man on the other end gave his name as that of a 16-year veteran of NASCAR Winston Cup races, Lloyd put up his guard.

Men’s College Baseball: Napa Valley 18, Mendocino 9

Napa Valley College’s 19-hit attack Thursday resulted in a five-run first inning, a four-run second, three-run third, two-run seventh and four-run eighth.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Napa 4, Vacaville 1

The Indians took a 2-0 lead at halftime of Thursday’s win over the Bulldogs.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Vintage 4, Fairfield 1

Jenni Aye scored on a free kick. Daniela Alfaro scored on a corner kick from Jessica Bruton. Brenda Cruz and Bianca Gonzalez each scored as well to lead Vintage.

Varsity Boys Tennis: Sir Francis Drake 5, Justin-Siena 4

Andrew Kelley (6-2, 6-0), Justyn Thomas (3-6, 6-3, 10-6) and Matt Andre (2-6, 6-1, 10-3) won their singles matches in Thursday’s Marin County Athletic League dual match for visiting Justin-Siena (7-7 MCAL).

Varsity Boys Golf: Napa High 201, Armijo 213

Zack Sims was the medalist in Thursday’s nine-hole Monticello Empire League match with a 38.

JV Boys Swimming: Napa 69, Wood 42

The relay team of Nate Charney, Max Bernstein, Erik Amdahl and Chris LeBerge gave Napa a strong start by placing first in the 200 medley relay.

Varsity Boys Golf: Wood 207, Vintage 210

Michael Butler was the medalist, shooting a 38 in a nine-hole Monticello Empire League dual match at the Chardonnay Golf Club’s Meadows Course.

JV Boys Swimming: Vintage 56, Armijo 17

John Bayotas was a double winner, taking the 100 butterfly and 500 free.

JV Boys Swimming: Vintage 64, Wood 53

John Bayotas had double wins in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, John Frye won the 50 free, and David Kastner won the 100 breaststroke.

Napa Valley Swim Team solid in Morgan Hill meet

The Napa Valley Swim Team recently competed at the 2009 Short Course Far Western Championship Swim Meet in Morgan Hill.

Varsity Swimming: Napa High swimmers top Wood in MEL meet

The Napa High School varsity girls and boys swimming teams were winners in a Monticello Empire League dual meet against Wood Wednesday.

Varsity Boys Swimming: Vintage 105, Armijo 73

Mike Wiley (50 freestyle), Jesse Reisinger (200 individual medley), Clayton Boydston (1-meter diving) and Nick Kozlowki (100 breaststroke) won their events for the host Crushers Wednesday. The team of Kozlowski, Jacob Sykes, Tommy Cornes and Michael Wiley won the 200 freestyle relay for the Crushers (4-2 MEL).

Varsity Boys Swimming: Vintage 127, Wood 58

In Monday’s MEL dual meet, Jesse Reisinger won the 200 free and 500 free and Seth Anderson won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.

JV Girls Soccer: Vintage 2, Fairfield 0

Joanna Griffin and Daniela Trejo scored for Vintage.

JV Baseball: Vintage 9, Fairfield 2

Nate Edwards pitched a complete-game two-hitter Thursday for Vintage (11-9 overall, 4-6 Monticello Empire League), striking out nine, walking one and allowing two earned runs.

Varsity Girls Swimming: Vintage 118, Wood 66

Vintage had double wins from Chardonnay Biter-Mundt in the 200 and 500 freestyle and single wins from Katrina Husted (50 freestyle), Bailey Clem (100 backstroke) and Corrine Shafle (100 breaststroke).

Branson golfers beat Braves at Silverado Resort

The Justin-Siena High School boys golf team will be looking to turn things around when it plays in the Marin County Athletic League Tournament Monday at 8 a.m.

Varsity Baseball: Wood 10, Napa 9

The Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the MEL victory, which pulled them into a first-place tie with the Indians on Thursday in Vacaville.

Varsity Girls Swimming: Vintage 93, Armijo 82

Chardonnay Biter-Mundt won both of her events, the 50 and 100 freestyle; Stephenie Frye won the diving competition; and Bailey Clem won the 100 backstroke with a personal best of 1:07.11 for Vintage (5-1 Monticello Empire League) Wednesday.

JV Girls Swimming: Napa 78, Wood 58

Ashley Amey had two very good individual swims, finishing first in both the 200 free and 100 free. Alyssa Howell-Moxie picked up a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley and a second-place finish in the 100 breast.

Winos qualify for national league

The Napa Valley Tennis Association has qualified a team, the Napa Valley Winos, for the National Super Senior 60 League, which is for players who are age 60 and older.

Crushers say bye-bye to MEL baseball skid

The Vintage baseball team might have lost eight straight league games, but not its will to win as a team.

Zoie Konakis (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke), Ashley Houghton (500 free), Laura Brochard (200 free), and Olivia Vicencio (50 freestyle) won events for Vintage Wednesday.

JV Girls Swimming: Wood 57, Vintage 30

Double wins were achieved by Olivia Vicencio (100 and 200 freestyle) and Zoie Konakis (100 backstroke and 200 individual medley).

Annual George Carl Kids’ Fishing Derby May 3

The 40th annual George Carl Kids’ Fishing Derby is coming up on Sunday, May 3 at Lake Hennessey. The derby is open to all children between the ages of three and 16.
