Fund-raising swim event set Saturday
NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley:
Saturday’s Shannon Lemieux Memorial Aquatics Day, which starts at 11 a.m. at the Vintage High School aquatics complex, will feature synchronized swimming, diving, water polo, and swimming events for high school athletes, parents, youths and masters-level participants.
The fifth annual meet will offer a silent auction, which includes an autographed Joe Montana helmet, Dara Torres autographed swim gear, and restaurant gift certificates.
The Shannon Lemieux Memorial Scholarship Fund has awarded 41 $500 scholarships to date to graduating seniors at Justin-Siena, Napa and Vintage.
There are costume relays for teams of parents, friends and anyone else who would like to enter. Special Olympics athletes will also participate this year.
A donation of $5 for adults and $3 for students and children will be taken at the gate.
Mike Garibaldi and Pat Burke will be the guests of KVON-1440 AM at 4 p.m. today to talk about the meet.

Napa Junior Lacrosse played its last two varsity home games of the 2009 season, going 1-1.
Ian Whitlock scored twice, after having been out all season with an injury, in the Force’s 5-4 loss to Santa Rosa L.C. Napa was trying to avenge a lopsided loss to Santa Rosa in its first game of the season, but came up just short.
Mak Kirmse and Max Bryant each had a goal. Kirmse and Whitlock each had an assist and goalie Matt Goetz fielded 10 saves.
In a very physical contest, the Force came away with a convincing win, defeating the Ukiah Crushers, 12-5, as Clint Mason and Damian Buckley scored three goals. Peter Olney, Kirmse and Bryant contributed two goals each. Kirmse registered four assists while Ian Mahaffey, Bryant and Olney accounted for one assist apiece.
The game was marked with 11 penalties incurred by the Crushers. Goetz recorded nine saves at goalie.
The Force has four away games left in the regular season.

Steve Meyer, president of Joe DiMaggio League baseball, will be the guest Saturday of the KVON SportsVine.
The hour-long show, hosted by Terry Simpkins, Charles Kennedy and Mark McLeod, starts at 9 a.m. on KVON-1440 AM.

Four Napa Valley golf professionals played in the Northern California Section of the PGA’s Match Play Championship.
In first-round matches at Green Hills Country Club in Millbrae, Napa’s Matthew Mores, who is at Orinda CC, won 3 and 1; Dan Lithgow of Eagle Vines Golf Club, was a 5 and 4 winner; and Jason Boldt of Vintner’s Golf Club in Yountville won, 1 up.
In the second round, Mores lost 2 and 1, Lithgow lost, 1 up; and Boldt won, 1 up.
In a third-round match played at Tehama Golf Club on the Monterey Peninsula, Boldt lost 6 and 5.

Tom Lehman will make his Champions Tour debut this week at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. Lehman has five PGA Tour wins, including the 1994 Memorial and the Colonial in 1995.
“Turning 50 has its ups and downs and one of the true bright spots is being able to have a chance to come out here on the Champions Tour and participate and play golf out here,” Lehman said in a conference call Wednesday.
“I think all in all, the work that I’m putting into my game is the right kind of work and my game is going in the right direction. I feel like it’s on the upswing. So it’s all very encouraging.”

Tyler Gaffaney, a 6-foot-1 junior guard from Branson-Ross, and Robby Rowland, a 6-6 junior forward for Cloverdale, were chosen to the CalHiSports.com all-State Division V boys basketball team.
Branson plays in the Marin County Athletic League with Justin-Siena. Cloverdale is joined in the North Central I South with St. Helena.
