Fairfield steals show at track meet

The Napa High and Vintage track and field teams competed in the same meet Wednesday, but not against each other — officially, anyway.

JV Baseball: Marin Catholic 12, Justin-Siena 1

Davis Foley took the loss Wednesday for host Justin-Siena (8-10 overall, 5-6 Marin County Athletic League), pitching four innings and giving up one earned run. Foley was also 1-for-3.

JV Softball: Napa 4, Vintage 2

Jenn Shubin allowed four hits, no earned runs, one walk, and struck out five in seven innings in Tuesday’s game for Napa (18-3 overall, 5-0 Monticello Empire League).

JV Baseball: Napa 9, Wood 6

Bobby Parker came on in relief to pitch 41⁄3 innings of two-hit baseball to pick up the win for Napa on Tuesday at home. Parker struck out three and walked none.

Youth Football: Napa Raiders sign-ups set

Napa Raiders youth football and cheer will hold sign-ups at Lucky’s on California Boulevard.

Next stop for Vintage senior: NASCAR

When Brad Lloyd picked up the phone April Fool’s Day and the man on the other end gave his name as that of a 16-year veteran of NASCAR Winston Cup races, Lloyd put up his guard.

Have you ever wondered what swims in the waters of our Napa River? I had the opportunity this week to observe a sampling of fish, amphibians, and even some crustaceans that call the river home.

Fund-raising swim event set Saturday

NOTES AND QUOTES for a Thursday in the Napa Valley:

Western Conference predictions

As a recovering Seattle Supersonics fan, one might think I couldn’t care less about the NBA or its looming postseason.

Eastern Conference predictions

Is there anything sadder than watching an aging NBA team trying to defend a championship only to crumble to pressure, injuries and uniforms featuring a hideously outdated mascot?

Bragging rights

Matthew Silverman shot this turkey on the second Saturday of the season. He weighed 20 pounds, 7 ounces. The spurs were one inch and it had a beard of 101⁄2 inches.
